Re: Late Nighters

Hi

Does anyone workout late nights, say after 9:00 or 10:00 pm. The reason I’m asking is this. I missed my workout this morning, which I hate. Anyway, I’m working out tonight after I get off my part time job; which is 9:00 pm. So I figure I'll probably start after I unwind a little, say 10ish.

I would hate to mark on my rotation a unplanned rest day, that really sucks. So I was wondering to these of you who workout at night could give me some advice. And that is what do you take for an energy boost? I plan on doing MIS (legs only) well depending on how I feel and how much energy I have. I would love to do the entire, but not sure at this time, thanks for your help ;o)

I occasionally work out really late, but after I work out and take a shower, it'a harder to go to sleep.

Have a piece of fruit, some juice, some toast or crackers, pour yourself a big glass of water and hit it. You'll feel so virtuous.

Hi Mogambo, thanks so much for replying. I called my boss and told her that something came up, yeah right! (my workout, ha)

Anyway I told her that I could only work up until 8:00 pm. So instead of starting my workout at 10ish. I'll start it around or before 9ish. And, I'm going to eat a fruit before starting, thanks.

Yes, we do have to keep our priorities straight, don't we? I am leaving early so I can go to a really tough 5:30 spin class. Then I'll go home and do just the chest portion of S/H Chest/Back.

I've done MIS at an unearthly hour as well - usually on weekends when I know I can sleep in. Only problem is that I usually wake up really stiff as I just take a shower and jump straight into bed. Also try and eat something really small after your workout or you may get up really early because of a grumbling tummy.

Yeah girl, we must keep our priorities straight! Spin class sounds like fun. Although, I am a member of Bally's can't even tell ya the last time I've gone. I just keep paying my yearly dues $53.

I know its been a least 3 years. My sister has been trying to get me too go. Now that I have picked up at least 10/12lbs, I don't think so. I don't want to return fat.

I'm going too try to get back down. I picked this weight up in only 2 1/2 months, and I feel really bad to. I still cant believe it, all my hard earned work for what!!!!

I joined the BFL 2002 challenge for motivation. So as of 8/12 I have been very serious about my workouts and routines. Well gotta run.

Hi Prfitness

That's so funny 'unearthly hours' well.....usually not me. I'm a morning person. If I miss my workout, I do it around 6;30pm or so. But, not as late as I'm doing MIS tonight.

I usually have a protein drink after my workout. Well, I shall see how it goes ;o)

I think that whenever you work against your body clock it takes getting used to. I am a night person, mornings kill me. So any advice I give you probably doesn't mean much since I do nights anyway. Having said that, when I was in school I regularly went to the gym or did home workouts really late after night class- so my schedule was work to 5 pm, class until 9:30 pm, and then workout usually one 1/2 hours, 10 or 11 pm to after midnight. THe key for me was to work out so hard I was exhausted. If I wasn't exhausted, it took me 3 hours after exercising to fall asleep.
I agree the best fuel for late night workouts is fruit or other fast absorbing and readily efficient carbs.
Good luck! If you stick with it, eventually you won't feel the need for the extra boost once your body adjusts (provided you eat well during the day!)

I love to work out in the evening.I have so much more energy then in the morning.Even after my breakfast I always feel a little stun.
But on Wed,and Thurs nights I get off at 9 and I often go for a run when I get off.So by the time I get home and get ready to go, it is closer to 9:30.The main reason why I work out in the earlier part of the day is that I am afraid that something will come up later and I won't get my work out in.Peace of mind, shall we say.
Alot of people afraid of workingout in the evening b/c some people find it hard to fall asleep.I went for a run on Sunday Night.I got home at 9 and I was in bed at 10:30.
Do it when ever you can get it in.The main thing is that you do it...

I know this is too late for you but I thought I would just add this for anyone who might be interested on this subject.

I thought I would pitch in here I exercise at between 10.00 and 10.30 at night for me its better everyone is in bed I know no one will surprise me by coming to visit no phone calls.

I do all my exercising at night I have a shower get ready for bed read for 10 mins turn the lights of and go to sleep.

For me its easier and I as a tend to find sleeping difficult doing this has actually helped me sleep. I would recommend having a proper night ritual you know shower, doing your normal cleansing routine.

After working out you need to wind down if you get hungry I would recommend eating light and having plenty of water. I also find reading something light and listening to soft music helps. I also remind myself that I have work the next day so I really need to get to sleep.

For me it makes little difference about soreness as I wake up sore from exercising no matter what time I exercise. I would recommend it as a one off otherwise stick to what works for you this works for me and by doing this I always workout have a good time and go to bed feeling that I have spent some time on myself.

The other benefit is that when I am doing any Kickbox workouts I can picture anyone that has upset or annoyed me I use them as my mental punch bag.
