RE: Deadlifts

What is the difference, if any, between deadlifts in a back workout & a leg workout?

I am in the 1st week of Meso2 (5.5 mo. rotation) and hurt my right side of lower back muscle I think by doing so many deadlifts w/much heavier weight than I'm used to using. There were alot in disc 14, then more in disc 15 just 2 days later.

Granted, my lower back has always been fairly sensitive & weak, but, am I doing something wrong, as far as form or emphasis?

TIA for any opinions or comments!

As a personal trainer, I encourage my clients to do the deadlifts on leg day to squeeze their hamstrings and glutes as much as possible as they lift the weight. If it's back day, I go a little bit lighter (even more so if the client has had any history of lower back issues, and not at all--no deadlifts--if they currently have lower back issues) and try to use the lower back to lift the weight. Always be mindful to retract (squeeze) the shoulder blades (like sticking out your chest by squeezing the shoulder blades) and keeping good alignment in the head, neck, and spine.
