Raising the step

Hi,

I absolutely love Step Blast. I already did that and IMAX2 this week. Tonight is my own version of Body Max and then I'm supposed to do Step Blast again. I'm wondering if any of you think it's wise or insane to try raising the step. I'm normally set at where Cathe is on SB, but I've noticed the only one doing it on two sets of risers is the taller girl to Cathe's left.

What do you think? Go for it or not? I'm 5'4" - will that be realistic?

Allison

I think you should be fine. A lot of times I've raised my step height to add intensity. There are only a few moves that could cause more difficulty having a high step, such as straddle hops. I'm about 5'2".

I am not Cathe, but you should be able to add risers without a problem. I have read that you shouldn't do step at a height of 8 inches if you are under 5'4" inches tall.

I am only 5'2", and I do it on 8 inches several times a week. The manager of my gym who is also a personal trainer looked at my form, and he says that I don't overshoot on my knees or mess up otherwise. When I feel tired, I bump the step down to six inches, and I do Imax 2 on six inches.

You will have to see how your knees react and how you feel. Good luck.

BEWARE: Bumping up the step REALLY increases the intensity. Whenever I do it, I wonder what the heck is wrong with me. LOL! I am 5'4" and work with an 8" step with proper form. But is a much harder workout.

Thanks guys!

As long as I'm not burnt out after tonight's workout, I'll give it a try next workout. I could use the intensity burst since I've been fluctuating around this weight for a while.

Funny how I'm wondering if I should do this. Ten years ago (aka before marriage and kids) I would have tried it without thinking at all about it!

Hi Allison, I'm 5'4 and I do Step Blast on an 8" step if I'm feeling energetic. It does raise the intensity significantly!

Yep, I think it would be fine to bump up the step height. I'm 5'4 and use an 8" step for all workouts.
