Has anyone done this? DH and I ran the Toledo Race for the Cure 5k last weekend, and it was phenomenal. Seeing all the survivors, women being pushed in wheelchairs that just had surgery - it was very moving. Almost 18,000 participants were walking and running.

After the race, there was a women in a wheelchair holding a pink rose and she thanked us for runnning for her and for the cure.

Since my mom is a breast cancer survivor for 13 years now, I proudly ran that race. And also, I PR'd my 5k time down to 22:49! I was thrilled.

We have the Run for the Cure here in Canada, and I do it every year. It's this coming Sunday. My sister is a survivor, so I run for her. It truly is the most inspiring race I've ever run, but it's so sad to see so MANY people with names on their bibs of people they're running for.

Wow. That's a fantastic time! I was hoping to PR this year, but I've been sick all week, so I'm thinking it's not going to be my best run on Sunday.

Shelley - that's awesome to run for your sister. I agree, seeing those pink bibs and pictures of all who have lost the battle with cancer is heartwrenching.

I think the reason I PR'd is because DH ran with me - he usually get about 20:56 or so..so I appreciated him slowing down and running with his slow wife, lol. It was nice to run side by side, and I think he pushed a little which is why I PR'd. Wouldn't you know, though, that he still beat me by .002 seconds..bastard,lol...he couldn't let me beat him in just ONE race?;)

Heidi
Hope you feel better by race day!

Heidi - I'm running with my SO. This is his first-ever race, and he only started running a couple of months ago, but I'm pretty sure he's going to beat me. I'll just blame my cold ;)

Wow - that would have been a box of kleenex for the ride home. Overwhelming. Great Job!! And to your Mom!!

DD and I have run this for the last 2 years in MN on mothers day. It is definitely an overwhelming experience!

Ours was a couple of weeks ago. I PR'd my time but it was 26:11, not quite as fast as yours. I am in awe. You were haulin butt!
My 8 yr old walked with his grandma and then I went back around and ran the end of it with him. He was so proud to walk/run the whole thing!

Ummmm - so Heidi --- wanna' WALK the Cleveland 3-day with me next year? (You cannot run -- it's a walk) -- 3 days, 20 miles each day. Look out my fellow Ohio Catheites -- you know just as soon as my little girl drill team season is over I'll be coming to recruit you all. :p

When I was training for it last year I was on a training walk in a local park and passed an elderly couple out for their own brisk walk. As we passed, she asked where we were going in such a hurry. We explained that we were training for the 3-day, and this elderly lady said "well then I just want to thank you because I am a survivor and every step you take will allow somebody else to say the same." My sweaty friend and I stopped in our tracks and turned around to hug this awesome lady. The experience is like no other. Kudos on your terrific run and PR for such a great cause. (And my drill team season concludes 10/11 -- so look out)

Hi Lorrie!! I'm still mulling it over, although I did tell someone I was probably going to do it, but if she repeats that to you I'll call her a liar -- LMAO!!!

OHMIGOSHOHMIGOSHOHMIGOSH!!!! I might actually get to meet the infamous Miss Lee!!! YAYYYYYY. Ladies -- a Team Cathe would be unstoppable. :D:D:D

Well, I knew you'd come at me with your meathooks, Lorrie:D lol...

I would really love to do the three day event, and I didn't realize it's in Cleveland next year. Give me details, woman! When is it exactly? And how much in pledges do you need to have to qualify? It's 20 miles per day and then you sleep where? I am truly interested!

Heidi

OMG I can't believe I'm stopping to do this -- have a parade tonight (homecoming) so I'm in the midst of getting it all ready -- BUT---

Next year will be Cleveland's 3rd year for it. It'll be July 31, Aug 1 & 2. I did it in '07, but this last year it was the weekend before school so I couldn't do it - was really bummed.

Had to raise at least $2200 in pledges -- funding was not a problem - I think I had almost $7,000. Don't know if they will up the min or not. Yep - 20 miles per day and you camp out in pink tents - we were at the Cuyahoga County Airport. It's really well run and while the accomodations aren't the Hilton, they're not at all bad for an event of this magnitude. Hot showers, good food, lots of support. Early registration for Cleve is by sometime in Nov. Hit www.the3day.org for addt'l info. My pic trail has some pics from '07 (also has some of my little drill team so you can see why I've no time to breathe till my season with them is done - HA!)

Will chat about it soon! And think of the amazing shape we'll all be in next summer post STS!!!

I'm signed up to do the one in Denver this Sunday. I have done it every year for the past 8 years and it's one of my favorite events.

My family has done it for years here in Austin, and I've done it once in Chicago. It is definitely the most inspiring race! We've always done it in honor of my DH's DGM, who is a breast cancer survivor. Sadly, she is now in hospice care with bone cancer. We will very likely run the Race for the Cure in November in her memory.

Lorrie, I'd love to do a 3 day sometime; I considered Dallas this year. I have a friend doing it with her DH in Washington this weekend.
