Questionf for the ice-skaters:

Is this an aerobic exercise? I actually skated the entire time without the walker (whoo-hoo!). I wasn't gasping for breath but did go at a decent rate around the ice. I am wondering if this qualifies for aerobics? I mean with all my arm flailing and heart racing terror, I am hoping this will qualify me for some of my aerobic needs.
Today we went to the dance store to buy the girls ice costumes. Wow, about half the price as the pro-shop.
This ice-skating thing is really actually pretty darn fun. My pal from North MN has not skated since high school but obviously it is like riding a bike where she is still excellent at the sport.
Carole, I cannot believe that you have weak ankles. It has the be the only weak part of you. What a drag with it in your blood!!!
I guess you have made up for it in other ways, though.

Sure, as long as you keep moving and get your heart rate up, it's definitely aerobic. Actually, one of my favorite things to do used to be to just practice my basic forward and backward skating, going around and around the rink. Guess I'm obsessive!

Agreed! It can be aerobic if you keep your feet moving instead of gliding. And it's pretty good for the legs, too! Glad you are enjoying it.

I would definitely say aerobic for ice skating...I didn't do to well in snow sking either Kate...maybe the cold ground scares me?? I do love running in fresh snow though...:)

Thank you, but uh, backwards, that is going to take some time. And Carole, I could never get myself to ski (there are many resorts here, lots of mountain space between CA and NV) because I hate the cold too!

How's your foot? You must be better if you're going ice skating, huh? Are you back to all your regular workouts too?

BTW, I've only tried ice skating one. My son just finished an Intro to Hockey class. He put his skates on and was a natural. So unfair! lol However, I'm happy it came so easy for him.

I think not just cardio, but it must be an excellent core workout also. I mean, with all the balancing & stability you have to use, there's no doubt you're working your core muscles.
