Question to all the Power90x users

Cathlete
Hello all. Question. I notice that a lot of people on this forum make reference to P90X. I watch the informercial with wide eyes because the before and after photo's are amazing. Is it worth the purchase and how does it compare to Cathe? I mean I LOVE Cathe! I've joined gyms for years and I've run and taken boot camp classes and step aerobics but NOTHING compares to Cathe's videos. I LOVE the music, I LOVE her queing, I LOVE her motivating team, and I LOVE the challenge. I've been doing Cathe videos for about 3 years I own 18 DVD's (can't wait for new one's but I'm never bored)and I just rotate them and incorporate 2 hour hike's and joggs throughout the week all because I enjoy it. I've even got my husband hooked. He wants to try the P90X but my thought is that it really is not that much different than Cathe's workouts and it's pricey. I'd appreciate feed back or advice before I dish out the $$. Thanks All!
liz :)

I'm sure one of the P90X grads will chime in, but P90X is totally different. It is a well thought out rotation of strength and flexibility that is truly unsurpassed. It has 3 90 day rotations that come with it so that you can individualize it for yourself. I would look at Videofitness.com and search the general discussion forum for "talk to me about P90X". That question / topic has been asked a couple of times recently and you can get the input from successful P90X grads as well as those who were disappointed and also those who modified it to suit their needs. I absolutely enjoy Cathe and have only done a short stint of P90X but it was great. (I had wrist issues that I had to deal with before returning.) Tony is enjoyable and encouraging. Different from Cathe but in a good way.

Here - I found the threads for you:

thanks sue. this link is more on the lines of what i wanted to know. i was curious if cathe users found much of a change in their bodies when switching to such a program. i'm not interested in searching videofitness.com as gibbee reccomends because i wanted input from Cathe users. i guess i'll stick to Cathe no point in changing what i enjoy and find fun. that is after all the best way to make fitness a part of everyday life.

BUY IT. If you do a search on these forums for P90X, you'll find TONS of threads about it. It's definitely not like Cathe. And your husband will love it. I know Fiddefit did a fairly comprehensive thread recently after her P90X rotation. Let me see if I can find a link.

Hi Shelly,
thanks for the feed back. I guess there will be people that love and don't love it, but what I am happy to hear is that it helped you run better and faster. Before I reached my 30's I used to run 10 miles a week and I truly enjoyed it. Due to a foot injury I had a 2 year running break which was replaced with biking and hiking. I run now but only 4 miles a week. I would love to get back to a stronger running form. Did the X help you improve with running cardiovasularly? I have trouble reaching that cardio comfort zone, . . where after 30 minutes of running I'm crusing. Now I feel myself struggling. Every minute is like an hour.

I'm 8 weeks into my first P90X rotation. Prior to this, I pretty much only did Cathe for strength. For cardio, I did Cathe, running or spinning. I consider myself to be an advanced (but not elite) exerciser and I am an intensity junkie. I want to be challenged. Nothing makes me happier than when a workout is kicking my butt. When I first started P990X , I thought it was very intense but very do-able. For the most part, P90X is a strength focused rotation. There is cardio, but it's not the focus. For me, the only challenging cardio is the Plyo X dvd (and now, my body is used to it, and I have to really work hard to modify to get my HR up). If you are interested in increasing your strength and taking your lifting to a new level . . . this is a great series. It is a wonderful compliment to Cathe. Although Cathe offers variety, it's nice to do something totally different. For me, Cathe is mostly endurence workouts and this is more of a strength series. There is really no choreography to the P90X workouts, so someone (like many men) who is choreographically challenged will easily be able to keep up.

I can't say that the changes in my body are very noticable or miraculous. I have not adopted the diet they suggest, however. BUT, my strength gains are coming. I am getting closer and closer to achieving a pull up and pushups (on the toes) are no big deal. I would love to lose 20 pounds, but it's the diet that's going to do it for me, not the workouts. I do think that my body is toning and tightening up, though. I am SO glad I bought these workouts and plan to do another rotation about 6-8 weeks after I finish this one. I LOVE Cathe (and will always buy her new releases). . . but I was getting a little burnt out . . . it's nice to have a challenging change.
