Question for those with a freestanding kickbox heavy bag

Was thinking of buying one of those free standing heavy bags for kickboxing that you fill the base with water or sand.

My question is for those who have used one, can they pushed around the room? Or is it too difficult to move around?

I would need to keep it in a corner, than move it to the middle of the room when using.

Thanks!

Oops sorry, thought I was in Open Discussion. I'll post it there later if no one answers here.

I have a Wavemaster. They are pretty easy to move by tilting them at an angle and rolling them on their round base. You just might have to reposition several times, as they don't roll in a straight line.

Pushing them would be difficulut (though they do move), and if you have wooden floors, it would scuff them. It also might wear your carpet down.

Thanks Kathryn, I have puzzle mat floors, makes sense to tip and roll.

Have you found it's worth having one? Do you use yours often?

I hadn't used mine for quite a while, but I just got Amy Bento's new "Rumble," which has a very nice bag section on it, and I've dusted it off and used it more!

I just read somewhere an idea for keeping it from moving (when you don't want it to): cut a hole in a puzzle mat to fit the base in.

I put mine on top of a yoga mat, with some heavy dumbells on the opposite side, which reduces the movement.

Thanks again, I got Rumble too, which is what made me start thinking about getting a bag.

I have one and find I go in stages where I use it frequently ~2-3x per week and then other times eh, not so much :) (but that's because I have so much other stuff I'm into, it's hard to fit it all in. (Kettlebells, the Firm, barre, pilates, bosu etc. :) Love having variety! Anyway, when I am using the bag frequently, I use it alternating KPC, Powerstrike II & III workouts. It's a killer workout and usually something I do more in the winter time to accelerate some serious calorie burning.

As for storage, I keep mine in a corner. My hubby had to load ALOT of sand in it to keep it from creeping across the room during my workout (a major pain). The real challenge was weighing it down enough to keep in one area but not too heavy that I wouldn't be able to roll it out of the way. I move mine exactly as Kathryn described :)

Thank you to the original poster for this question. I am very interested in getting one as well. I am thinking it would make a good "family present." I think my DS (8) and DD (10) could have a lot of fun hitting the bag!

Thanks Papaya. I have Powerstrike 4, and it would be great with a bag. I'm looking forward to the new Powerstrike, I really like Ilaria. I have the sword workout, Forza coming in the mail any day now. I love KPC but I barely make it through as is! :p
