Question for Sandra/FiddleFit! = )

Hey Sandra!

Okay so now I have the Body Blast Series AND the Instensity Series with the exception of the Timesaver and Terminator DVDs which I opted out of.

My question to you is: Within these 2 series what work outs would you suggest would be best for me right now? Or which are easiest to modify for pregnancy? I'm dying to try them all but I'm thinking atleast Bootcamp and Imax 2 are completely off limits until post-delivery! Any other suggestions?

Thank you for the help! :)

Have a great work out!

Whatever you do, check with your physician first. Step Blast, Bootcamp and Imax 2 forget it. I could try her Lowmax from HC Series, also make sure you wear a heartrate monitor. Nothing over 140 or it cuts off oxygen to the baby. This was told to me. The Step Pump and Jump has hi/low which you may try, you can select it from the premix on the DVD, you can cut the step portion out. You may try Cardio and Weights but substitute the step portion with you own hi/low. But seriously I would forget the stepping until after the little one appears.

Hope this helps...;)

Hey Wendymin!! I just finished reading the check-in updates, and YES you can be VERY excited about receiving the IS!! It's awesome and amazing!

Cardio & Weights will be really, really good for you right now. It's the least intense of all the cardios, and doesn't have any power/plyo blasts. You can choose to either do the whole workout in it's circuit format (*very* good upper body conditioning), or you can choose the cardio-only premix. The cardio-only premix is 30 minutes, and about on par with All-Step for intensity. You might want to modify the turn-squat-lunges in the very last segment.

You can actually give IMAX2 a whirl. The step portions prior to the blasts are quite easy and fun. I've actually done just the aerobic step portions as their own workout, using the mix'n match menu. I just skipped over all the blasts and recoveries (dvd is great!). It was a nice mild step workout. I am still doing IMAX2 with the blasts, but know the workout so well by now that it's very easy to swap the intense moves with easier modified versions.

BootCamp will be useful to you right now for the weight work premixes. The cardio in that workout is truly unmodifiably intense. Actually, the cardio is so short, that doing a non-intense substitute would be ineffectual for anything. But the premixes of the weight work would be great! Muscle Endurance should be no problem, as long as you keep your weights light.

The Pyramids are completely doable, particularly since you already know how to modify your weight work. The chest work in PUB is on the flat board, but there's no reason you can't modify by doing them on an incline. And there's no pushups, so you won't have to worry about that! The stability ball ab work in PUB is stellar, but I don't recommend you begin attempting Pikes at this point. You could do the ab work up until the end of the wood chops. When she starts talking about doing planks on the ball, it's time to quit!

In the Body Blast Series, all of the cardio workouts are great. Step Blast has the Challenge at the end, which takes the workout from an intermediate level to advanced. There is a SB premix that just does the 3 combos, with no blasts/challenge at the end. Alternatively, you could do the Challenge, but hit "skip" when she moves into each Blast segment. It's really fun putting all of the 3 combos together at the end; no need to do the blasts that she inserts in-between them.

SJP is great. The hi/lo might feel a bit intense; that's a personal call for you to make. My bladder can't take hi/lo anymore, so I'm avoiding it. If it weren't for the bladder situation, I'd stay with it. SB and SJP have some awesome, awesome premixes that combine segments from each workout. Any of those that don't include the SB Challenge would be great. SJP's step-only premix is 26 minutes, and I would rate it intermediate in level (but super fun!).

KPC is one of my favourite non-step cardio workouts right now. Cathe and Crew really give it 100% during this workout, and if you do the same it will be very intense. However, if you stay light with your punches and jumps, and low with your kicks, you can still get a great, fun cardio workout that doesn't take you out of "talk-test" zone. KPC has a premix that I would rate as "intermediate". It's the 4th one, and runs about 45 minutes. It contains the warm-up, intermediate conditioning drills, and kick/punch combos 1&2. KPC stability ball core work is also really, really good but includes roll-ins and pikes at the end, too.

The weight workouts in the BB are excellent, especially for your current level/needs. I can see myself using them more and more in the near future. There are a couple of moves that you will need to modify due to your belly, but usually Cedie is showing a good modification.

You have a ton of super workouts, Wendy!! Have fun trying them all out! Let me know what you think of the workouts, and which ones turn out to be your favourites!

Cheers!

WOW Sandra!

Thank you sooo much! You are amazing! I am printing your answer out for my reference! I am gonna hang it up next to my rotation schedule!
:) :) :)

Sounds like I can get a lot more use out of these new vids then I originally thought. That is very cool!

Thank you again! You are the best!

Have a great work out!

Hi Linda.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate everyone's input.

I am actually ok doing stepping as I've modified all of the high impact moves during ALL of my work outs including step. I DO want a heart rate monitor for use in general but I just haven't purchased one yet...there are so many out there so for now I do the "talk test" to make sure I'm not out of breath.

Thanks again.:)

Have a great work out!

Thank you Wendy! What kind things for you to say! :+

The only reason I make such recommendations for you is because given everything you tell me about your current workouts, I know that you already modify Cathe's workouts to stay lo-impact and reasonable. I pressumed you would continue to follow your own cautions with these workouts, too, and that you are knowledgable enough by now to know how to modify higher-impact moves that don't suit you. Any workout is doable, really, as long as the person doing them is willing to modify when necessary, and you obviously are. With that in mind, I know you're going to have a ball. I intend to attempt all of the HC workouts, but will be modifying like crazy. Now, if only the dang package would get here! <casting an impatient glare out the window>.

Cheers!

Hi Sandra,

It's kinda funny but I am almost happy I am forced to modify Cathe's work outs. I tend to think it makes the learning process for someone new to Cathe a little easier....I can concentrate on learning the ins and outs of her choreography rather than putting all of my concentration into keeping up the intensity and trying to breathe! lol Then, down the line when I am able to kick it up a notch, I will already be familiar with the routines and will probably find it easier to incorporate the higher intensity.

I am still having some trouble creating a comfortable incline at times though for weight/ab work. I don't have enough risers to make an incline the "traditional" way. I have tried using the stability ball for some things and a conglomeration of my fanny lifter and my step/2 risers I have for others. Sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't. If it doesn't work, I just skip the exercise. I get a little frustrated having to do that at times but I know it's for the best.

I got my HC shipping notice tonight! Will be delivered tomorrow but I had it go to my job and dangit, of all of the days I had to take off!!! SO....I have to wait til monday for them. I started previewing some of the Intensity series. Looks awesome!:)

Hope you get HC soon!

Have a great work out!

Hey Wendy, I think Sandra covered it. I loved PUB, PLB, ME, & KPC during my pregnancy! I stayed away from the step workouts from Body Blast because I was not familiar with the choreography and I have a grumpy knee. :) I used KPC until near the end, my low back pain became an obstacle.

Take care!

Pregnancy & Heart Rate

I just want to address this since it was mentioned. ACOG had dropped the 140 bpm guideline. Sheila Watkins recommends the talk test and/or perceived exertion test... you can read more of her recommendations on the Fit Moms forum. Target heart rates were used is non-pregnant exercisers in 1984 when ACOG developed its first guidelines. There was pressure to come up with a guideline but there was not scientific data. So, they "guesstimated" (Dr. Artal's (an researcher in this area) words not mine :)).
