Question for Cathe!

Hi Cathe,
There is something I've been wanting to have clarified for quite some time now. I've been working out for almost two years now and am still confused about calorie consumption. If you calculate your calorie intake to be around 1600 for weight loss, but you eat 2000, and then work out and burn 400 calories, is it the same as eating the 1600 calories per day?

I know there are quite a few veterans here on-line however, because I've gotten so many varying opinions on this from veterans, I'd really like Cathe to answer this one for me. Thanks everyone!

:)

O.k. bump number 3. LOL! Maybe I shouldn't have excluded the veterans from answering!
It's a continuing process.....

You know, I've always wondered about this too. I always thought if you ate 1800 calories per day and didn't lose or gain weight but instead maintained, and then you added exercise, but kept to the 1800 cals per day, you should lose weight then - right?

Hi Christi! I think you actually come out ahead by eating 2000 and burning 400. The long term effects of the metabolic after burn are going to assist in the overall fat burning effects. Not to mention all of the other benefits that come along with exercise.
