Question about water drinking and heartburn...............

Calico

Cathlete
I know this is gonna sound strange but I am getting major heartburn in the evening after my last bottle of water. I drink a gallon of water a day starting with my morning workout (32oz.) then I drink another either at lunch or early afternoon again 32 oz. then at supper I drink another and then I don't eat after supper usually from about 6 on no eating. At around 9 when I take my evening meds I drink another one to get my gallon in. Well for the last 2 nights I have had horrible heartburn that it hurts to lay on my back, I can feel it burning. Is there a correlation between the water and heartburn or not eating after supper or some other connection I am not seeing?

I can attempt to get the water in before 9 but I still have to drink some with my pills so I can't cut it out totally from the evening. Not to mention that the water helps me not want to eat at night.

I do chew gum and don't notice it when I have gum to chew but I am out of gum right now so I don't know if the no gum factors in or not.

BTW I am losing again so that is a good thing.

Thanks for any and all help and wisdom

Hey there :)

I don't know for sure, but it sounds like it's the meds causing the heartburn. I can't take most kind of medication (or vitamins especially) on a completely empty stomach or I, too, have heartburn or a very upset stomach. I would try eating just a couple of small crackers or a slice of bread with your meds and see what happens. If that's not it, then I'd let the more educated crowd take over :D

Hope you feel better!

RE: Question about water drinking and heartburn...........

Thanks Sara,

My synthroid says to take on an empty stomach but I hadn't thought about the multi vitamin I take maybe it is the culprit.:( Maybe I can try the cracker thing or take the multivitamim at at different time of the day.

Makes sense that the gum would give me something in my stomach when I take them normally.(not that I swallow the gum but you know what I mean:+ )

Thanks for the suggestion

RE: Question about water drinking and heartburn...........

I wouldn't be suprised if it was the multivite. I can't take any mulitvite on an empty stomach. It just kills me!

RE: Question about water drinking and heartburn...........

Think i read this on Dr. Weill's site, that multi vitamins need to be taken with food. Vitamins in their natural state are found in foods and therefore as supplements need food for better absorbtion and should always be taken with a meal.
