question about the STS dvds...

Cathlete
so each month is 12 dvds? that seems like alot, using each dvd only 2 times is 24 days. i'm just trying to figure it all out in my head - this periodization is new to me. and i'm trying to convince myself (and dh, lol) that it's worth it to buy 37 dvds that will only be used about twice in 3 months time. can anyone explain to me more about this? i was looking to see how many days per week/hours per day we are talking.

hmmmm, sorry this should be in dvd forum i guess. i'll post it there, too.

I have a question to add to this, if I could.
With this system how many dvd's will be original, and how many will be premixes. Am I saying this right?? I want to know, if I am getting 37 different workouts, or if 4 will be originals and the rest will be pre-mixed for the STS system.

Very good question Michelle, I was wondering if they will all be new workouts or just old ones mixed together.

I'm guessing that the first week of each month will have new material, but that the rest will be premixes. That would make 12 DVDs of original stuff, plus the abs one (so 13 out of 37). It's just a guess, I could be way off.

Mesocycle 1 (12 DVDs)

Week 1- will use the 3 original workouts (#1, #2, #3 below)
#1 Chest, Shoulders & Biceps- will have 3 premix DVDs. 1 for weeks 2, 3, & 4
#2 Back & Triceps- will have 3 premix DVDs. 1 for weeks 2, 3, & 4
#3 Legs- will have 3 premix DVDs. 1 for weeks 2, 3, & 4

The other Mesocycles will work the same way. There are a total of 9 original workouts or (3) three day splits and 27 premixes. There is also 1 Ab circuits DVD. These will make up the 37 DVDs.

ETA: I think the premix DVDs have the advantage of additional filmed footage mixed with original footage to make each one a little different. Of course this is just my interpretation of the info :)

Thanks jordan,
i guess i'm just confused about the amount of dvds vs the amount of workouts. we're looking at 3 workouts per week for 12 weeks, that includes originals and premixes. so that's 36 workouts. is each dvd ONE workout? or is it the type of thing where on week 2, day 2 you use a specific dvd that has many different premixes to choose from?

i'm sorry if these are silly questions, i just really want to wrap my head around this and have a less abstract vision of what comes in this series!

It sounds like each DVD has its own workout with a couple of exceptions.

1. Mesocycle 3- the leg workout has a premix option for people who would like to use a squat rack.

2. The Ab cicuits DVD has 6 routines of ~ 10 minutes in length.

You will use each Mesocycle for 4 weeks and there are 3 Mesocycles. It looks like there will be a recovery week between Mesocycles that will extend the program to 3 1/2 months.

Hi mommacody,

Here is a small excerpt from SNM's announcement.

Mesocycle #1 (12 DVDs) is all about muscle endurance.
#1 Chest, Shoulders & Biceps
#2 Back & Triceps
#3 Legs

Mesocycle #2 (12 DVDs) is all about hypertrophy (muscle building and definition).
#1 Chest, Shoulders & Triceps
#2 Back & Biceps
#3 Legs

Mesocycle #3 (12 DVDs) is all about Strength and is divided into the following three muscle groupings with four workouts per muscle grouping:

#1 Chest & Back
#2 Biceps & Triceps
#3 Legs & Shoulders

There will be some premixes in this series (see the section on Mesocycle #3 – Legs below), but I’ve decided to do things a little differently this time. I originally planned on making weeks 2, 3 and 4 a premix but in our production meetings we started running into problems with the premixes fitting on one disc and also having the smooth transitions I prefer. It takes a lot of planning to make a premix look smooth and many times it is just not possible. The solution was to simply make the premix a DVD. This will allow us to control the edit points more precisely and make all the transitions smooth. It will also allow us to film more original footage and add features that we can’t do with a typical premix. We will still combine original footage with existing footage used in the other weeks of the cycle to give you something new as well as something familiar every week of the cycle.

Maybe it will help to digest a smaller piece of the info. I don't want to end up confusing you more or get things wrong in translation.

HTH a bit :) ,

thank you very much for the info, jordan, and it does help!

i still have one question though, assuming i purchase the series, when i am using the premix dvds, will i have more than one option? or will each dvd, even if it's a premix dvd, only have the one workout on it? i guess that's why i'm so confused, cathe's dvds have hours of material on them, so why do these each only have one 60 minute workout, and that's it?

in the scheme of things, i guess it isn't that important, lol. i'm just curious!

Other than the two exceptions that I mentioned above, I think each DVD will only have one workout per DVD. She talks about some additional features, but as far as I can tell, does not mention them specifically.

Here's part of my above post.

It sounds like each DVD has its own workout with a couple of exceptions.

1. Mesocycle 3- the leg workout has a premix option for people who would like to use a squat rack.

2. The Ab cicuits DVD has 6 routines of ~ 10 minutes in length.

I'm looking forward to reading about the production,

jordan
