Question about Heart Rate Monitors

I'm just getting back into my exercise routine after an on again off again 2 year hiatus. I have a new HRM. The polar F4 I think. It is specifically for women. The last one I had was the Polar A5 and it broke. My question is this. I'm doing the same workouts I was doing 2 years ago but the F4 shows me burning alot more (75-100) calories more per workout than the A5 did. And I'm trying to get back to the physical condition I was in 2 years ago so I'm not able to work as hard for as long as I was back then. I was just wondering why the difference in calories burned for different HRMs. I can't believe I would burn more calories than I was when I was in pretty good shape cuz I'm really struggling on the cardio routines, whew!

Thanks for any input.

Not 100% sure on this, but it would seem that you would work harder now, since you have not been working out and therefore are not in the same shape that you were two years ago. As you get better and in better shape, you will burn less calories b/c you don't have to work as hard. So, in my head, it seems that you would burn more not being in as good of shape as you once were. Does that make sense?

I agree with Shanna. I have noticed that I burn less calories now that I am in better shape than I did when I first started using mt HRM.

I agree with this as well. Also, you burn more calories the heavier you are (hooray for me:(). As the body gets in better shape, it becomes more efficient and you burn less calories for the same workout.
