Question about Bench Presses

I have been exercising for years! I recently read online that doing a "decline" bench press (head being lower than the buttocks)is easier to build muscle in a shorter period of time. My question is: Is this true-in any way? If it is, why?

Thank you
Vanessa

Hi Vanessa,

A standard bench press works the mid part of the pecs. If your head is higher than your buttocks, you're going to put more emphasis on the top portion of your pecs. If your head is lower than your buttocks, you're working on the lower part of the pectoral muscle. Your best bet is to alternate between the postitions.
Good luck, NP!
