PX90 Observation

Hi,

Well I purchased Power 90X. I haven't done any of the workouts but have previewed. It seems to me that he moves really fast through things like push ups and pull ups. I love Cathe's count on her push ups and weights - slow and controlled. Tony Horton seems like he is in a race . . .I worry about injury. Any thoughts to this welcome.

Thanks,
Dawn

I did 2 P90X rotations. It is alot different than Cathe as you work at your own weight amount and pace. Some of the push-ups he did do fast, but I didn't....http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/f/wiggle.gif[/img]...Carole

He does move fast thru some of the push ups, but I go at my own pace. He does keep repeating choose your own level, especially with the weight work.
It is very advnnce work, and tons of variety. Not geared toward endurance like most of Cathe's. Geared toward strength building (i.e. lift 8-10 heavy reps, no pulses, no 2-2 count etc...)

Yes, he does go fast on the push-ups and pull-ups. Like Carole and Wendy, I went at my own pace (I don't really need to be able to do 30 push-ups in a row on my toes to get good results!). I usually got in about 12-15 reps per set.

The other exercises, though, are done at a good pace.

One thing I really like with Tony's push-ups vs. Cathe's (as in HC): he gives you enough of a break between sets so your muscles recover, and you can give it your all. I also love the way he sequences exercises for the same reason. Try P90X for a few weeks, and you may end up liking it much better than the way Cathe sets up her workouts in general.

I have done two weeks of P90X, I am getting used to Tony, I like the Shoulders and arms, kenpo X, Plyo X, is Ok, but is growing on me. Is a great program, he is not as fun as Cathe, but still a great program. I will start week 4 of the Classic tomorrow. I do L&G instead of Tony's legs workout. Give it a chance.

I think I am getting ready to bite the P90x bullet!! Gonna see if DH will get it for my b-day next month. :)

P90X is MEANT for you to go at your own pace. Don't worry about his pace...he's a guy...he can't help but speed through reps!LOL!!! There is a "time ticker" at the bottom of the screen. I do as many as I can during the alloted time. If I can get more than 15 reps or so during that time, I up my weights.

I find it easier to do fast pushups than slower ones. I can bang out 20 fast pushups, but to do them at Cathe's pace I can only do about 15. It's tougher to do them slower.

Thanks for all of your insight. I actually bought it so DH would try it. He had a bunch of moles removed last week and has suters front and back. I think we will give it a shot next week.

Good! You are going to love P90X awesome workout. I did Kenpox last night and loved it, tonight Legs & Back. My first time doing L&B man oh man I could hardly walk.

Hey Sarah- you look wonderful ;o)

I agree with everyone else with Tony you can go at your own pace and you are allowed to rest the muscles a bit before starting again. Try it I'm pretty sure you will like this program.

I'm curious, is Power 90X as expensive as Cathe's videos? I looked at the website but all I could find were self-assessments for if you're "ready" for it. I must not have been looking in the right place.
I'm bored with the Firm and I have Low Max and Kick Max but I need some new muscle stuff! Any recommendations are welcome!

When I bought P90X back in Nov/Dec they were offering a couple of special discounts that someone on VF posted. I think I paid $99 for it, including shipping. It was $149 plus shipping. It looks like they have a new buying program for it now where you can try it free for 30 days. I found this on BeachBody's web site:

Considering that you get 12 individual workouts for about $140, the price per workout is pretty good. I'll also add that I love the workouts! Chest and Back is my favorite. :)

There is a VERY different mentality that comes with the P90X. When I do Cathe's strength tapes...I ALWAYS feel like I need to do everything they do while they are doing it and at their weight mind you. When I do the P90X, Tony STRONGLY ENCOURAGES you to do YOUR OWN THING. Most of the the guys behind him are all doing various weights, methods, styles, etc. "VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE" This does not mean you do it with bad form....there are just many ways to modify to your own level. When I do pushups I generally start before he has them start and end after so I can get them all in at a slower pace....yet a good number of them. I HAVE HAD LESS INJURY WITH THE P90X then doing Cathe. AND I'm not saying that Cathe is dangerous...she uses excellent form, etc...she is outstanding. BUT there are various stretches that he incorporates in the beginning and end which have eliminated the neck and back strains that I used to get. TRY IT!!! You won't be dissapointed. I've been doing it for more than a year and I'm still not tired of it.

Just a note...I only do the strength workouts...Cathe can't be beat for cardio.
