Pure Strength

I was able to finish two set of pushup this morning. I can't believe it. I was hesitate at the beginning. Then I thought what the hell, if I failed, I would just change to knee position, I got nothing to lose. And I got thru it! And better, I got thru the two set dips. I normally could not finish the second set. Now I did see my strength improved. Tomorrow, I will give Leg & Abs a try. I did some premix of this section. Never try the full workout. I hope it will not give me too much DOM since I want to run 6 miles this Sat.

To those experienced marathon runners. Is it OK to go heavy on legs while training for long distance run? Will that heavy leg w/o put too much stress in legs? What are the best plyo w/o or Cathe dvds for long distance running training?

Thanks

I have run 12 marathons and am probably the only distance runner here that has benefited from heavy leg weight training. I don't do it anymore as lighter weights and higher reps seem to be better for me as I age. My advice for you would be to start out light on the legwork. Don't lift more than 3 times a week for the legs. Depending on the distance you are training for cut back on leg weight training 2-3 weeks before the event. You do have to experiment to see what works for you as we all find different results...
As far as some Cathe plyo to benefit running. Any of the Imaxes and MIC should help...:)...Carole
