pure strength worth having after gym style and slow and...

I have all the gym styles and also the slow and heavy, and like both a lot. Is Pure Strength much different, or is it similar to one of these newer workouts? Is it worth getting PS if I already have the others? Can either one be subbed for PS in rotations? Thanks in advance!

Aim for nothing, and you'll hit it every time!

Hi Ann,
I'm curious to find out the answer to this as well!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

I think GS supercedes PS and is an update of it. No need to have both. I haven't used my PS for at least 3 years. I use both S&H and GS every week. Save your cash for the STS system in Feb.

I have almost all of Cathe's workouts. I got great results with Pure Strength. It really is basic moves like squats, lunges, step ups. I really do like the floor work. I have not done the lower body workout in this entirely for a long time. I have used upper more. Lower runs around 16 reps per set while if I remember right upper is 12. I think all of these workouts are different and have their place. The thing is, with the basic moves and reps on PS that I can do heavier weights than in some of the other workouts. I do love Slow and Heavy which I can get up there in weight with. Gym Style does pull out some endurance type work with the slower stuff though. Nice mix.

RE: pure strength worth having after gym style and slow...

I bought PS years ago and I still use it a lot. It's the workout I choose when I don't feel like working out, but I know I have to get some weight work in. It's not super tough, like the Gym Styles can be, so there's no dread factor. However, if you don't own it and you want to budget your money on other things, PS is not a must have.

RE: pure strength worth having after gym style and slow...

I hadn't done PS in years and only had it on VHS. I got the DVD in a trade and really like it. It is a straightforward no dread workout that I actually really feel the day next which surprised me. Guess that is what they mean by mixing it up! I don't know if you NEED it but I have to say I really like these workouts.

Thank you so much for all of these helpful answers!

I am thinking of the budget. All of the Cathe videos I don't have are on my wish list so I am trying to carefully choose what comes next!

I personally love the basic ,effective program outline,"tempo" and rep range of this workout!

If you are into incorporating props into your workout. Then this is a keeper ;-) This workout and MIS make it doable to work with a stability ball, bosu ,versadisc etc that creates an unstable surface, making it more challenging !

good luck on your decision,

I really like that idea and have been looking for ways to get my Bosu involved more - thanks for the tip!

You are welcome!

I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised how many more basic & intermediate videos in your existing collection that will take on a new vibe with instability training!

Have fun with what you already have ;-)

ETA-and have fun with your future purchases

I've relied only on GS but can hardly stand to wait for STS. But STS is a long time away (Filming in Feb so who knows when it will be available... saving my tax refund, though) but have been wanting an alternative to spice things up NOW, now that I've returned to weight training. Thanks to you, I know to go for S&H and forget about PS. Thanks for the tip.
