Pure Strength or Slow & Heavy

Hi Everybody ~

If you were choosing one, which would it be and why?

Slow and Heavy.

The Pure Strength Series is a fine series; however, the manner in which the reps are performed, the exercises used, and the abdominal work are fairly traditional, and you can find close-to-the-same drills in other productions.

The Slow and Heavy Series is quite different in that the tempos of the lifts are very, very controlled, and . . . well, slow, so this provides a very different training stimulus. Plus, it includes drills to strengthen forearms, something you don't see in other productions. And it incorporates a great deal of plank work and long-lever leg positioning in the ab / core routines.

I've seen most Cathe-ites use S&H for shorter, more intense rotations when they really want to build strength and mass. It takes a lot of concentration, and can be a bit of a time-chewer. But the reported results have been pretty significant.

I'd choose S&H as well, because of its versatility. Though it's set up as a "6 up/2 down" count, I often use it as 5 up/3 down or 4 up/4 down. It also incorporates more recovery time between sets, and is the most "pure strength" oriented workout Cathe has made, IMO. I love the S&H upper body workouts, but don't do the lower body (I prefer other lower body workouts, and my first attempt at slo-mo S&H lunges was not something my knee liked!).

I also like Slow and Heavy but because of the time factor, I usually only reach for it on a once a year rotation of one muscle part per day.

While Pure Strength is traditional, it fits in with my workout schedule better than S&H because I usually only devote 1 hour a day to working out and can easily fit it into a split routine.

Thank you, ladies ~

I appreciate the detailed responses from (3) "members" I've come to respect. Slow and Heavy it is!

I have to agree with the above members that S&H is the most innovative in approach and generates terriffic results. I stay on S&H for 6-7 weeks and love the muscle I build and the incredible definition. I do not find it boring at all. I am given the time to concentrate on good form and to visualize the muscles being worked which I believe helps.

As an alternative to work in with it on alternate weeks, consider the Gym STyles. More innovative than Pure Strength, different rep speeds and a more modern look than the dated PS.

I agree with this suggestion.

I know you've already made your decision, but it's another vote for Slow and Heavy from me. I love this series and can't wait to do it post partum. I've had really good results from it.

Thank you again for validating my choice!

I thought S&H would be a nice compliment to the Gym Style workouts in the HC Series. I'm cautious when considering the workouts produced prior to ME and HC Series. I can't get past the "dated" look of some of them so I thought S&H content as well as appearance was a safe bet!

P.S. To all of you who "already know" that this would happen, my collection is growing to include "them all!" but aside from the Classics Vol. 1, I don't think I'll be going too far back into Cathe's past productions! (Please feel free to grab me by the shoulders, give me a "wake up" shake, and steer me toward any "must haves" from the past as you see fit!)

Take care, everybody! (and thank you again for your valuable input!)

I too would choose S&H, but have gotten significant results with PS lower, but I think it is because I use fairly heavy weight on the floor work. This is my favorite floor leg workout next to GS.
