Pure Strength - Is it Good?

Can anyone tell me how Pure Strength compares to Slow & Heavy and Gym Styles as split workouts? Is it harder/easier? More fun/less fun? Also, are there premixes on it?

Michelle

I haven't done PS for a while, but it's a good, solid split workout, kind of like an early version of GS without the band work. I think the reps are a bit faster than in GS, though, so it's harder to go as heavy.

There are no premixes on the workout, but it is well chaptered.

It is a bit dated, as in headbands, but still a great workout.

The only thing it's missing, that Cathe started doing with later workouts, are rear shoulder exercises (I might be wrong about that one), and step-ups.

There may be some questionable exercises in it, IMO, like high upright rows, or barbell rows done with an extreme bend to the body (this last one is in Body Max, which came out around the same time as PS), but I don't remember it well enough to be sure.

As for "fun," I guess that's subjective. What I consider "fun" might not be what you look ofr as fun" in a weight workout. I enjoy workouts that are effective and make me feel strong. THAT makes it fun for me.

There are rear shoulder exercises, but done a bit differently (you sit on edge of step, lean over, and raise arms with dumbells out in a V. But there are definitely no step ups for legs. There is a great back workout on the floor - not sure if GS has that...

no upright rows in this one (but I still do them)
chest -pushup 2 sets-cpress 3 sets-incline cpress 2 sets-flys 1 set
and a combo of flys and press
shoulder-arnold press 3sets-clean and press 2 sets-sidelat 2sets-rear delt flys 2sets-side lat 16 reps
tricep- tricep press 3 sets-lying extensions 2 sets-1 arm cross body 2sets-another set of lying extensions -dips 2 sets
back-t bar row (luv these)4 sets-bent row 3 sets- 1 arm row 3 sets-shrugs 2 sets-and abs
biceps-bar curl 2sets-alt hammercurls 2sets-slow ct bar curl 2 sets-con. curl 2 sets
The lower body I haven't done it for awhile but the main exercise's in it are squats-lunges on and off step-deadlifts -floor work-abs I know there are more but I can't remember -it just seems I remember quiet a few sets of lunges.
Edited to add I love this series as well as the ones you mentioned.I just started this one again.

There are step-ups for legs. I promise. Two sets of 12 on each leg.

I know, because I did this workout today! PS Legs is sooooo effective. :)

This series is a tad boring to me after all these years, but it's effective and I still do it. The abs workouts are pretty tame, but all the other muscles really get worked out well. The music and outfits are not as good as recent stuff, but the workouts are still worth owning.

For those of you who have both Pure Strength and the Gym Styles...
Do you think that Pure Strength has something that the Gym Styles don't have? I mean, if I buy the Gym Styles and NOT PS, will I miss something? ...besides the head bands LOL.

I don't think you'll miss anything on the upper body stuff, but the leg workout in PS is much heavier and slower and makes my legs much more sore. I think it's substantially different from GS Legs. But that's probably not enough reason to buy the series if you already have GS.
