puppies

I need to ask, my pomeranian had a litter of puppies a week and a half ago, well the little tiny one, and I mean real tiny, he is weighing in at 4 ounces. Well his momma rejected him and he is weak, I am now bottle feeding him with some goats milk that I used on one litter of puppies a few years ago, well he cries all the time and low muscle tone. My one other female poodle will clean him after the feedings to get him to potty. I am not going to put this little puppy back with the rest of the litter and his momma I am just going to keep him warm and feed him and take care of him, what do you think his chances of survival will be? I am so worried about him, if he does survive he will be a pocket pom and weigh only 1 or 2 pounds is all.

Did you call your vet? The reason why I ask is b/c years ago, my uncle's pup had a litter and this exact thing happened. He tried for about 24 hour to take care of her (at the vet's recommendation) before bringing her to him and she ended up passing away b/c she really needed that care at the vet's from the start. Sometimes they are simply too small or weak or sickly, which is exactly why mom rejects them, but wiht the vet's help and maybe some medication, they can survive.

Good luck :)

Me too, I'm so sorry. Sounds like you did everything you could but the poor baby was just too small.

LeslieMarie,

I'm so sorry! I hope it makes you feel a little better knowing that you made a difference in his last days. You gave him love and cuddles, kept him warm, and showed him comfort. That is more than he would have gotten leaving it to "survival of the fittest." Animals do what they have instinct to do, so you can't blame the mother.

You and your poodle helped make his short life happy. He'll be waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. {{{{Hugs}}}}
