Pulled Muscle

wonderwoman

Cathlete
I think I may have pulled my right hamstring. That muscle that meets your leg and bottom of your rear? That one. It hurts and tender to the touch. Does anyone know how to treat this besides going to the doctor?

Thanks
Lilly

I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I don't have personal experience with or knowledge of this particular injury, but as a pharmacist I know that applying ice intermittently for the first 24 hours after an acute injury minimizes inflammation and pain (you don't want to damage the tissue by keeping the ice on continuously for 24 hours). After the 24 hours are over, switch to heat, which promotes healing. Taking an anti-inflammatory agent such as ibuprofen also helps, although you should be careful if you have ever had stomach or intestinal ulcers or bleeding (read the label on the medication to see all of the warnings). Good luck. I hope you recover quickly.

Thank you for your response. It began to flare up yesterday and today is same. I think it was from my workout Monday night I did Gs Legs.

Thanks again

I'm not a doctor, I just play one on TV!:p:rolleyes: LOL!! But it sounds more like the insertion point of the hammy-muscle to the glute. And YES it can hurt like the dickens and take a hot soak, stretching and if you can some massage. It's a deep muscle... but, hey! Maybe it means you are working the exact muscle you meant to target.... perhaps you got one more than the other.

HAHA!

I went to CVS and bought some motrin and those heating pad sticky things and it worked a miracle feeling all better! Actually the next day it felt great thanks!

So glad you feel better, Wonderwoman!! I absolutely LOVE the heat wrap sticky thingys... although they are NOT fun when you take them off! It's always a relief (literally) when the simpiler things work wonders! Now get to work!! hehe!:p
