I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I don't have personal experience with or knowledge of this particular injury, but as a pharmacist I know that applying ice intermittently for the first 24 hours after an acute injury minimizes inflammation and pain (you don't want to damage the tissue by keeping the ice on continuously for 24 hours). After the 24 hours are over, switch to heat, which promotes healing. Taking an anti-inflammatory agent such as ibuprofen also helps, although you should be careful if you have ever had stomach or intestinal ulcers or bleeding (read the label on the medication to see all of the warnings).
