Pulled Hamstring-How long to heal?

Anyone pull a hamstring muscle and if so how long did it take you to heal? Did you stop all leg and cardio workouts and if so for how long? I know I have to listen to my own body, but was curious as to how it may have affected other people.

TIA,
Jean

Hi,

What did you do to it? Have you seen a Dr?

No answer for you on healing etc. I think I pulled my hamstring behind my knee months ago and it has never healed. I have rested it for weeks at at time, and it still bothers me when I do any type of lower body workout. At first I thought it was my knee, but figured out that it was not the knee itself, but where the hamstring ends or connects behind the knee to the calf muscle?

I hope someone responds that knows about hamstrings!

I pulled mine while trying to do the splits too fast for a scavenger type game while on vacation. Went down too fast with no type of warm up and strained it from the knee to the hip area. Saw a doctor who said to ice it and rest it. It was painful to just walk the first few days. Now it only hurts if I put pressure on it or bend or stretch it.

If its only pulled, it might be about a week. I hope you feel better soon. Try an epsom salt bath (not too hot.) That might help.

I've had this and I'm sorry to say that it took months (3 or 4) to heal completely. As time went on I was able to do more and more, but I had to be careful. Indoor cycling was tolerable but high impact cardio was not. At the beginning my doctor sent me to a physio who had me icing it and doing gentle stretches, but I only did the icing for a couple of weeks because after that it didn't seem to help much.

My doctor told me that what we call a "pull" is actually a minor tear.

Hope you heal soon!

I pulled mine not too long ago. It must have been very minor because it only took about a week to heal.

I didn't see a doctor about it, but I did not work out at all that week other than some very easy videos with no impact, certainly no squats or lunges. I worked slowly back to my more intense workouts once it felt better.

I hope you feel better soon!

I'm in the same boat unfortunately. I pulled mine on 12/9 at boot camp. I now think I was right in feeling like I knew more about working out than the "trainer" did. (not enough warming up)

Today is day 12 and I had to ice it last night after some treadmill/elliptical. It is most definitely not healed. I am trying to be careful with it. I did Pyramid UB today and that was it. Skipped my normal cardio addition. I am terrified to just completely do nothing for lower body, because I lost a lot of weight this year and am afraid I'd gain back.

My pull was at the top of the hamstring, well into my glute. It's painful.

Jeanie, how long has it been for you? I seem to be in the same place with it not hurting too bad unless I try to bend or stretch.

I just did mine this past Friday. The doctor explained that it is tiny little tears that will need to repair themselves over time. Since it doesn't hurt all the time, I keep forgetting about it and then move just right and then I am quickly reminded of it. I will be taking it easy for a while and see where how it goes. I start physical therapy tomorrow for an elbow injury I got back in August that won't go away. So I may ask them if therapy helps with strains/sprains.

Healing vibes to each of you in the same situation.
