Pull-Up Bar

I would like to start P90X but I need a pull-up bar that doesn't make any holes in the wall or door trim. Any suggestions?

You can get a pressure bar, similar to shower curtain bars. I think Sports Authority has them.

BUT they're not as safe as bars that make holes in the walls--if it's not installed properly you might take a tumble.........

Wendy, don't get it. I had one & it was very unstable. Unless you have crown moldings from a 100 year old house it won't fit.

The one I ended up with when I lived in VA had braces you placed on the doorsills so you could remove the bar. I liked it a lot. I highly recommend something that's anchored to the doorsill.

It's really no big deal. It's like 3 holes on each side. When/if you decide to remove it, it'll take less than 5 minutes to spackle, sand & paint.

Thanks for the warning Laura!

Maybe I'll just go for the band option then but I don't understand how you do that...I'll have to see if I can find a pic of it somewhere. If anyone can help me out here I'd really appreciate it!:)

Wendy, if you find pics of the band option, do you mind posting? That's probably also the route I'll go. I do have my barre which claims to be sturdy enough for pull-ups and chin-ups but I'm not sure yet how that might work. I should probably preview the stinking DVDs already, eh?????

Thanks for the suggestions, Laura and Wendy. I really do like the Door Gym. From what I read, most people are very pleased with it. My DH will have a fit if I make any marks. We're selling our house and he doesn't want any marks on the doorways. I'm going to measure my doorways and moldings to see if this would work for me.

I just went out and bought a pull up bar called the Weider 200 Power Tower...I think. It's a pull up bar and that also has handles and a back pad on the other side for leg lifts or leg ups for abdominals and handles on the bottom for push ups.

I'm not sure if you can find a picture of it on the web somewhere but I found it at Dunhams. Actually it is on sale this week for $99 - it's generally $129. The only downside to it is that it does take up quite a bit of space, but it is very sturdy and can be used for much more than just pull ups. Good luck with your search and hope this helps.

Thanks Laura! I like this idea! If you don't mind my asking, what size dumbbellsdo you normally use for back work? I don't know what strength tube to get and I am afraid the one you bought could be too heavy so I need a way to gauge it. TIA!:)

Wendy, they sell a set of those on the Beachbody site, so you might want to look and see what's included in that set. I do know the book recommends that you buy a couple (actually, three) sizes so that you can progress. I would do at least the medium/heavy, I think.
