PS series question

Hi Cathe-

I know you've probably answered this question a million times, but I wasn't able to find another post that was similar. My question is, is it sufficient to do the PS series one time per week, or do I need to add additional days of weight training? Right now my goal is weight loss and I'm not looking to build some serious muscle mass until I've reached my goal weight. For now, I'd like to slim down and tone up. Currently, I do your PS series once per week and about 5 days of cario (your step tapes and jogging). I've also pre-ordered your 8-pack. I'd appreciate any advice from you, Cathe or anyone else out there in this "educated crowd". Thanks!!!!

Hi Thea!

While everyones genetics respond to exercise differently, generally speaking, for the goals that you have listed, doing the PS Series one time per week is just fine.

Thanks Cathe!!

Thanks so much for your reply! I will keep on doing the PS Series once per week. Thanks again for your advice, I find it very admirable that you take the time to answer our posts personally (especially since you are so incredibly busy!) You're the best!

Hi Thea and everybody !

Just like you, my main goal is to lose weight.
I was wondering how you incorporate both the PS tapes (I have them as well) and 5 cardio workout ?
Apparently 3 times a week you do both on the same day. Isn't that hard for you ?
I am a beginner, and I find that exercising 5-6 times a week is too hard, even if I rotate between workouts. I think I might concentrate on the cardio mainly and (only if I have the strength) add weights.
Would doing only cardio be beneficial for losing fat ?

You'll definitely get results

with one run through per week. Studies have shown even doing one SET of exercises is beneficial. Experts also call for "20 minutes, twice a week". PS covers that rather well. And once you get the 8-pack you can add on as you like. Have you seen results using PS once a week? You certainly do a fair share of cardio. If it works for you, it's the right thing to do!

the problem with doing only cardio is that when you lose weight you also lose muscle along with fat. This muscle loss then slows your metabolism. Before I moved to this town (it's been a few years) I belonged to a gym and took aerobics classes there 3 days a week and used the weight room 2-3 days a week. There were women in the aerobics class who never did weights, had been doing the aerobics classes for years and just couldn't lose weight, even though they were very strict about what they ate. After a month they could see the changes in me, and when I told them to try doing some weights too, they finally started to see changes too. (Why the aerobics instructor didn't suggest this when they would complain to her is beyond me, but I digress). Anyway, I really think a combo of the two is the best way to go. You'll lose fat and gain muscle. As a beginner, I don't recommend doing as much as Thea though. Do you have Cathe's Wedding Tape? It's got a complete cardio workout and a total body strength workout on it. The total body workout is easier then MIS and I think a good place to start (it was my intro to home weight work). I would suggest trying to do that two times a week and cardio three times and see how that works for you. When you get to be more advanced, you can move onto something like the PS Series.
I hope this helps a little

Hi Anat and Rose

Hi ladies,
Just wanted to say that I definitely agree with Rose. I would keep with the strength training and aerobics combination. I am living proof that aerobics alone will not get you good enough results. I use to be "one of those ladies doing aerobics 6 days a week and getting nowhere"! I couldn't lose weight, and couldn't change my flabby body either. I have changed my body (still have a LONG way to go) more in 3 months of weight training than I did in 10 years of doing only aerobics. In fact, I make the weight training priority over the aerobics (if I have to).

Hi Anat and everyone!

Yes, there are some days that I do both a PS tape and cardio. On the days I do both, I make sure it is one of the two upper body PS tapes because I feel that PS legs is pretty intense and enough of a workout without cardio! I have been exercising seriously for about a year, so I had to build up to this level. Only do what you feel comfortable with! I would definately keep up with cardio AND weights. For a long time I didn't see very good results from just doing cardio, but then once I added in weights I saw a noticeable difference. I have lost about 20 lbs in the last year, and have about 20 more to go. Cathe's tapes have truly been a blessing as far as weight loss goes! Keep up the good work and gradually build up your abilities! Good luck and keep us all posted! I love this forum!!!

I agree

You will get results - I too have noticed that weight loss was faster, and maintenance is easier with weight lifting in add. to aerobics. What I am doing now (I got the idea from the outline of the upcoming 6pack) is 5 min. warmup, 25-35 min. cardio, 3 min. cool down, and then 10 minutes of PS tape (or how ever long one area is) and then 8-10 min. of abs every other day. This helped with those stubborn last 5 pounds.

Thanks everybody !!

I got some great advice from all of you.
I will keep you posted on how I am doing.

Good luck to you all !! I hope each of you can achieve her goals !!

Anat.
