Protein Shake Question

I know alot of us drink protein shakes especially after strength training, but do you also drink protein shakes after cardio too?
Just wondering.

Charlotte~~

After I do my cardio, I drink Kashi Go Lean. After my strength I drink Aria by Designer Whey. On the weekends, I eat regular food. For some reason, Kashi gives me more energy after I do a long cardio. I've read in Oxygen a lot of the female fitness models drink protien shakes after cardio, too. I think whatever floats your boat is what you should do. If you don't eat enough protien or can't really eat too much meat, I'd drink it.

Hi Charlotte,

I drink a protein shake right after both types of workouts. I mix my powder with skim milk and fruit(sometimes peanut butter) which is enough balance between the carbs and protein for me. I usually eat a full breakfast about 2 hours later. I work out in the early am.

Never thought of putting peanut butter in my vanilla pro shake. Thanks I am going to have that today. Now I just can't wait to work out to drink this. Karen

Hi Karen,

I usually mix a tablespoon of peanut butter,1/2 cup of crushed ice, 1 cup skim milk and a scoop of chocolate protein powder. It's SO good!! I may have to try it with my vanilla powder now that you've mentioned it.

I drink a protein shake after every workout and on rest days as well. Someone once made a good point to me that it is not only the days that you train when you require a shake but the days off require recovery as well. After all, that is the point of taking the "rest" day, right? When she told me this, the lightbulb went on in my head! To me, the same goes for after cardio. We all work hard in our workouts and I think that no matter what the workout, our bodies deserve some recovery.

For very tough cardio workouts, I also drink about 12 ounces of electrolyte replacement drink (like sports drink but the ore high tech version with the good stuff but no sugars). I usually fill a 24 ounce poland spring sports bottle with it and usually drink about half, swtiching off with water. If I am suffering a lot, I drink more. Sometimes I drink less. I figure my body tells me how much I really need.
