Protein Bars

Can somebody help me out?? I've looked at the grocery store and at a health food store, but still can't seem to find a decent protein bar. I'm looking for one with low carbs (less than 5 grams if possible), low fat, high protein and possibly less than 300 calories with a decent flavor of course. This wouldn't be my staple, but some days I need something I can eat in the car on the way to work.

Thanks,

Stacy

Stacy,

The only two that I can possibly think are Pure Protein bars (the blueberry cheesecake is very popular) and also Whey Protein bars (the double chocolate was good)- if my memory serves me correct, both brands were around 30g of protein. You can find both these at GNC

I use Nature's Best Perfect Solid Protein bars as a lunch at work. They are wonderful, very filling and easy to tote around.

Looking at the Double Chocolate wrapper, I can tell you that this particular flavor (they all vary slightly) has 270 calories, 9 grams carbs, 30 grams protein. Remember, this is a meal replacement, not a snack. If I used this as a snack between meals I certainly would gain weight, which is not a good thing.

I have found the cheapest place to buy these bars is a website named affordablesupplements.com. If you order over $75 the shipping is free and no sales tax of course.

Try a few bars if you can find them locally and then order from the above website once you know your favorites since you have to order by the box (12 bars) and one box, one flavor.

My personal favorite is Cookie Dough Chip.

I just wanted to add that Met-Rx Source is a good choice (peanut butter), and Promax Blueberry Cheesecake, Chocolate Mint, and Double Fudge Brownie are all good too. You can get them at GNC or you can order them over the net. Another hint, which is what I do, is to only eat 1/2 of the bar at a time. Then you can control your calorie intake - plus, 1/2 should be enough to fill you up if you drink a lot of water a day, it does me. Sometimes I can only eat 1/3rd of the Promax bars, but I also eat a lot of protein so I mainly eat the bars to curb my appetite.

This posting has helped me out< too! Ive been looking for some recommened bars. I wrote them all down and will check them out. Any bars out there that people absolutely dont like?? I tried EAS lemon cheesecake and it was disgusting, I threw it out. I did try one with the brand name of "doctors" in smore's flavor and that was really good, and can be found at GNC. I really like the balance bars, but the carbs are a bit high. Honey yogurt peanut is my favorite. Thanks for the helpful info!!

Hey, I just checked ot affordablesupplements.com. What a great site!!! Thanks so much!! FYI: the "Doctor's" protein bars are less than 3 gms of carbs and 19 grams of protein a box of 20 is 27.95. I believe they are $2 each in GNC. Now I need to know about Protein powder that someone can reccommend. I think Ill make a separte post for that!!Thanks again!

Judy:

The EAS Lemon Cheesecake is really horrible, I agree. It sounded good and I bought a whole box. Most of them are still with me. I think I will bury them in the yard. They are so disgusting that I am sure even my dog won't try to dig them up.
Yuck yuck and double yuck.

However, I am wild about Nature's Best Solid Protein bars. They are truly wonderful. Low in carbs, one gram of sugar, 30 grams of protein, with less than 300 calories. I could eat these as my three meals each day because they taste so good (I do not do this however...one should ingest regular food too).

My only wish is that the soon-to-be entombed Lemon Cheesecake bars don't sprout into some kind of nightmare tree blooming a bumper crop of these bars each spring.

Marlene, Wanna know whats weird?? I just asked Cathe a question about push-ups and she directed me to a link that you posted some excellent advice on (and she specifically mentioned your name). You made me laugh with what you said about the lemon bars! and thanks for the info on Natures best. Im gonna hopefully get to GNC today and give them a try. Judy

RE: Protein Bars..International orders..nightmare!

Okay, so I try to buy some protein bars over the net from Affordable Supplements last week. Thanks to everyone for all the great suggestions! I finally phone today to see if they had even been shipped, nope. They needed to know how much I wanted to spend for shipping, $30 U.S. was the cheapest, for two lousy boxes..give me a break, I'm in Canada, not Russia. THEN, they inform me that they had my credit card number from the order page, BUT needed the bank name and phone number of the credit card company. huh? Never been asked that before, and I've ordered from Amazon.com more than once. I looked on my card, no such information, she said it was on the back. Anyway, needless to say I've cancelled the order and will buy local. I wonder if they would have ever gotton in touch with me had I not called today. Likely not. Anyway, this is just a heads up for any 'international' people out there. If anyone from a country other than the U.S. has an address for ordering that actually ships to Canada, could you please pass it along.. much appreciated!

RE: Protein Bars..International orders..nightmare!

Bridge, wow, that sucks, Competition Bound told me about another site that she actually bought from call bodybuilding.com. Maybe youll have better luck with them! I cant believe they wanted to charge you $30 for shipping!!!! Well, you saved me the trouble of ordering from them. FYI, I went to the store the other day and bought a bunch to try on the suggestions of this post, so far, I tried "Solid Protein" cookie dough and cherry vanilla, and "Pure Protein" peanut butter. The cherry vanilla was the best so far. I cant believe how they fill me up! Judy

RE: Protein Bars..International orders..nightmare!

I was shocked to hear the story from our Canadian friend about the treatment she got from Affordable Supplements as well as the excessive shipping charge.

I am so sorry that my suggestions about ordering from this company has caused such a hassle. My intentions were good when I spoke about this place.

As I am in the United States and have gotten free shipping from them with no problem (on orders over $75) it did not occur to me that this may be the case outside the states.

I have ordered from this company many many times and never had a problem with the order being taken online, the shipping charges or the merchandise.

So Judy, as you are in Connecticut you should not have this happen to you.

Glad to hear that you like the Cherry Vanilla flavor.
