Pregnant now! Question about ab work

Hi there! I posted recently for help regarding my ob/gyn's odd advice about easing off workouts during "implantation week" while trying to conceive. Well, I took the good advice I got here last month and kept up my Cathe workouts... in fact during implantation week I had some of my strongest workouts ever (doing MIS, Bodymax, Power Hour). And as it turns out, I conceived!!!! I'm due July 4th, 2004! This is my husband's and my first baby and we're overwhelmed to have conceived so soon, and relieved as well since I am 37 and was hoping not to wait much longer.

Anyway it seems my ob/gyns aren't the best source for exercise advice so I thought I'd come back here. I am trying to figure out what types of ab work are safe throughout pregnancy. This is my main focus because I am somewhat prone to backaches even when not pregnant, and have always had to do regular ab work to keep comfortable. I figure it will now be more important than ever!

Thanks in advance!

Hooray! Congratulations! Our due dates are going to be close -- mine is June 26th.
The other day some mom's to be gave me some advice on what to do (modification-wise) while pregnant. The gist was "do what you're comfortable with, listen to your body" The thread is a few posts down.
Yea! This is so exciting. Keep in touch! We can compare notes! ;-)

Hi and congrats to you too! Thanks for pointing out your thread, that was helpful. I also did a few searches of this forum and got some ideas. I think I am going to focus on doing lots of plank work for my abs, and also sitting on the stability ball a lot for core strength (saw that recommendation in one of the posts I pulled up in a search).

How are you feeling so far? Besides excited of course! :)

Oh Martha! Your post has lifted my spirits! I'm 37, too, and trying to conceive with my first. When I read about not doing intense exercise while ttc my heart sank. Exercise is my stress reliever and I'm a group ex instructor, too, so I was getting concerned about this but your story is encouraging. There's enough to worry about being 35+ and ttc! Congratulations to you and your husband. Diana

Martha,
I'm feeling pretty good so far. No morning sickness yet - thank goodness. I get pretty tired in the evenings. Luckily I do my workouts in the mornings. I am now going to bed about 1 hour earlier each night. My hubby is soooo sweet. He keeps telling me to eat, though... It's that "eating for two" myth. I wouldn't trade him for the world though. He's going to be a great daddy! ;)
We are on cloud nine!
I hope you're feeling well, and taking care of yourself. :) Take care and have a great day!

Charlene - I'm feeling exactly as you are! No morning sickness yet, just fatigue in the late afternoon and evening. I usually work out in the afternoons as soon as I get home from work, and I'm still managing to get them in.

Diana - Good luck ttc! I'm so glad my story encouraged you. I sure hope you'll be joining us here soon as a mom-to-be! :)
