Pregnancy Fitness Video

Cathe,
I had a baby 9 months ago, and started working out to your fitness classes about 3 months ago, and I look and feel great! I was always serious into fitness and weight training before and while I was pregnant, although I toned it down when pregnant. I want to get pregnant again soon (I'm 34 and would like 2 more children) but I'm concerned about being able to keep up, yet every other DVD I've tried is too easy! Are you going to ever do a pregnancy series, or at least one DVD? I think it would really be great for all the woman out there like me (and I'm sure there are a lot) who love your workouts - and babies! Thanks!

Hello Mia. I am not Cathe but I have a step workout that has an expectant mother modifing (?spelling) the moves. It is "Two Jammin Workouts" by Gay Gasper. The first part is floor aerobics, with no pregnant modifciations, the second workout is step/kickboxing with preg. modifications.

Thanks for the advice! During my pregnancy, I did modify a lot of the workout tapes I already have, but since I was so used to doing the advanced workouts, toward my last trimester, I had to modify so much, there was bearly a workout there! I actually gave up and just went walking - which got really boring with no weight training after awhile. I just wish that someone would make some "advanced" pregnangy workout - we should not always have to modify standard tapes, don't you think? After all labor and delivery are the biggest workouts of our lives and we should have some serious training!!

I was thinking about your question of why no advanced preg.workouts. During my last pregnancy, I used the Buns of Steel Pregnancy Workout. It was all I could find to use. I bet no instructor makes a harder workout because of all the " things" a preg. body has to go thru. You know, "keep your HR < 140, don't do this. don't do that". I think the instructor might be afraid of including moves that are fine for most people but for that one person doing the workout, it causes a serious problem. Even though all workouts have the disclaimer at the beginning, I am sure no one would want to have someone think that their dvd/video caused a problem with the pregnancy. Of course, I may be totally wrong. I remember that during my last pregnancy, when I would be taking a "power" walk, my son would get very irrated and head-butt my cervix. I would have to stop and let him settle down. There are so many variances during pregnancy, it would probably hard to make a workout to suit people. Have I blabbed on too much? Sorry. Hopefully Cathe will anwser your question and give you her opinion.

Hi. I'm not Cathe either, but some Cathe-ites on this site liked a video on this site:

www.progressiveparent.com

I haven't tried it (I'm not pregnant, but hope to be soon!), but it looks advanced. You can watch a clip, and the woman who made it is a former acrobat form Circe-de-sole (sp).

Hope this helps.

Hi Mia,

I totally agree with you that there is a limited selection out there for those of us who are pregnant. I recently got a copy of the Gay Gasper video mentioned here, and I did it for the first time yesterday. (BTW - I am 19 weeks pregnant with twins.) I have just in the past few weeks started to feel ready to really work out again. The workout yesterday was good, but I still didn't feel energized afterward like when I did Cathe's. I actually posted in the video suggestions forum that maybe Cathe could include a prenatal crew member in her regular workouts. That way, everyone could still buy the workout - it would apply to so many from beginner or prenatal to the very advanced. I would love it if she could do this!!
I also got the Perfect Pregnancy workout mentioned in the thread, and I like it the most of my pregnancy workouts. But it is more geared towards toning and not cardio, so I still have to walk for cardio.

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in and say I agree with you!!

A pregnant participant in Cathe's videos? Wow, what a great suggestion!! When I was pregnant, I was totally put off by the pregnancy workout videos in the market ... they were too boring. I didn't know how to modify my existing workouts so I ended up not exercising at all.
