Wow...what a great response! Congratulations to everyone! How exciting to be able to share this experience with so many of you...especially the second timers. I look forward to benefitting from your experience. I MUST tip my hat to you all because I simply couldn't imagine fighting the exhaustion and morning sickness while caring for another child. Perhaps that day will come for me too...but not yet...thank goodness.

I just returned from a week’s vacation at the beach with my husband and friends from college. There were about 10 girls (with their husbands and significant others) that made the trip. I have shared 15 years of wonderful times with these friends...weddings, babies, vacations...and it was thrilling to be able to finally share my news with them. It turns out that two other girls are also pregnant and one is adopting a second baby. We obviously had loads to talk about.

I pledged that this vacation would mark the end of my indulgences. I ate way too much junk and really need to focus on a healthy diet. Unfortunately, my body is still not interested in eating the good-for-me-and-the-baby foods. Anyone have suggestions on meals that are healthy but also palatable at this stage of the game? I'm really starting to worry that all the junky foods are terribly bad for the baby. Can anyone out there tell me that they ate poorily in the first trimester but went on to have a very healthy baby? I'd love to hear some reassurance right now!

I also pledged that I would attempt to exercise 5-6 days per week from now on. Even if it's just a walk after dinner. I do feel so much better if I can just move my body and break a sweat.

Congratulations again to Alli, Erika, Lynn, tvanhorne, Wendy, Melanie, Leela, Sue, Latecia and a big welcome Shelby! I hope I got everyone. And hey Jennifer...I, for one, hope you join us and our extending bellies group!!!

Looking forward to hearing how things are going for all of you!!!!

Congratulations to you also Candori. It was a great idea starting this check-in.
I don't really have any advice for you as far as wanting healthy foods because I am right there with you. I am trying very hard myself to eat healthier. I can say that with my first pregnancy I starting losing most my food adversions at the start of my second trimester and went on to have a healthy baby.
Some things I am trying to do are make myself try at least a taste of veggies first before I put anything else in my mouth. It isn't that easy when the gag reflex is going but sometimes they don't taste as bad as I thought they would. I am also really trying to stay away from really high fat foods because I usually end up feeling more fatigued and bloated.
My husband, son and I are going to Wisconsin for the weekend at my parents summer home. We are hoping both sets of our parents will be there and then we can tell them all at the same time about the baby since we haven't told anyone yet.
Have a good week everyone!
Erika

Hi Everyone,
I am in my 10th week and feel horrible.
I feel as though I gained so much weight already I too am doing horrible with eating and exercising,I am getting in at least 2 cardio workouts and 1 strenghth training workout.
My aim is not t gain too much weight this is my 4th pregnancy I have a 10 yr.old and a 4yr.old and I miscarried one.
However I have been overweight since iI can remember and after having my son 4 years ago decided to do something about it.So with Cathe and weight watchers I did lose 85lbs. and was at a happy size 8 from a size 18.
So just to give you a liitle history on why I am so concerned with the whole weight gain with this pregnancy(which by the way was unexpected)My clothes fit snug already and I feel huge.
If anyone can share their eating experiences also their workouts or just some good old advice I would really be encouraged.
By the way sorry for going on and on I really am having a hard time but
CONGRATULATIONS to all of you,
Marisol

Hi Angela!

At 11 weeks, I think my energy may be on the return! Woo-hoo! I made an exercise plan for the week and haven't followed it, yet. However, I did go for a couple of walks this week and I felt kind of energized. I hope I can start strength training, again, next week.

I can totally empathize with on the junk food. I think my craving for potato chips is nearing its end. I had some a few days ago and it made me ill. I couldn't have been more delighted! Do you like yogurt? I love having granola, yogurt, and fresh fruit for breakfast. It's always satisfying. I used to make myself (& Maya) smoothies on a daily basis for our afternoon snack. Now, the smell makes me ill. I'm really sad about not drinking smoothies because they are so nutritious. I still make them for Maya, though. That's about all the foodstuff I can suggest at the moment. My mind has drawn a blank. I don't think you need to worry about your junk food cravings affecting your little one. I'm sure my diet wasn't the best during my 1st trimester with Maya. She was born perfectly healthy and she was born 4-1/2 weeks prematurely.

Hello ladies,

Don't worry about the junk food! Atleast you can eat something. Eventually, as many of you know, you will get hungry for "everything" which is the point I am at now. I find myself eating more "bad" foods now than in early pregnancy, but I am taking advantage of the summer produce. I live in the country and have a garden, so that is a blessing when it comes to getting plenty of fresh veggies. I have been craving fresh fruit too. I have been forcing myself to get my protein sources lately.

I had my 24-week check up this week and so far (knock on wood) this has been a perfect pregnancy. Thus far, my weight gain has been very reasonable. I am officially wearing maternity tops now and having to wear 2 bras for workouts. I am still running once or twice a week, but I just reduced my mileage this week. I am hoping to be able to continue running for atleast another 6 weeks.

For those of you not getting in the # of workouts that you want--I am right there with you. If I get in 4 workouts a week, I am doing really good. My job can be very physically demanding at times and so some days I have to skip workouts.

Have a great week, ladies. It is an inspiration to have all of you here.

New due date

I went to my first Dr's appointment today. He's using a 28 day cycle for my due date even though I have 26 day cycles. So really, I am due on the 22nd but I don't feel right keeping that in my signature...lol. So as of tomorrow, I'll be 7 weeks.

I'm having an ultrasound on the 17th (my birthday if you can believe that!!). I'm having one so early because I had a c-section with my son. This is something my Dr does for his patients who have had previous c-sections. I'm not complaining :D I'll still get to have one later to find out the sex.

Still feeling really tired but I'm getting used to it. Oh, I've already gained 3 pounds! What is that? I hope that's not setting the tone for the whole pregnancy. I'll be as big as a house.

Where's everyone at?

RE: New due date

How funny! I had my ultrasound on April 17th, which is my birthday! Anyway, I'm cruising along now at just about 33 weeks and actually feeling pretty good (even despite the heat). I am managing to work out about 4-5 times a week. Mostly walking, but doing some weights as well.

I have my second ultrasound on the 21st - my doctor tends to believe that tall women (I'm 5'10") have big babies and he wants to check the measurements out. He says my weight gain is good (24 pounds and counting!). Hopefully we'll get a clear picture on what the sex is!

good luck everyone!

Hi there-
I am right there with you as far as craving the junk food first trimester!! Potato chips and Won Ton soup was my standard breakfast for many a day during that time..
If salt is what you are craving and you are struggling w/ trying to get nutritious foods in.. try steaming up some veggies but adding butter and/or melted cheese... For some reason, when I added some fat to the veggies, they were alot more palatable to me.
I am 28 1/2 weeks today and feel great!! I am still working out every day doing some type of low impact cardio, and strength training. I have gained about 21 lbs. I can feel my body starting to slow down naturally, getting more winded and less flexible during exercise. (Cardio Kicks isn't a pretty sight!) But mentally and physically I feel like I am on top of the game.
Good Luck to all of you!!!
Lynn

Congrats to you all - here's my update

Only doing yoga these days. My hip really hurts (left side). I spend a lot of energy playing with my very active and sweet 2.5 yo daughter. The rest of the time is either spent sleeping, or working (I am a full time software engineer).

I haven't gained much weight this pregnancy. Like before, I lost a lot of bodyfat while pregnant. I gained a lot of bodyfat post partum with Anjali - but I think it was stress of her being ill (she was in the hospital for 3 wks).

Very excited that i'm 33 weeks now! It is almost at an end. I only made it to 36 last time, and i'm hoping to go further than that!

Anyway - congrats to you ALL!!!! This is my last baby, and while I love children - I don't love the actual sensation of pregnancy.. so i'm content with this decision. I'm really hoping to get into working out much sooner than with Anjali - andmy husband totally supports this as he knows i'm happiest when I get to work out.

I'm aiming at fit by 40, but fit by 38 wouldn't be so bad either :)

Marisol ...

You are amazing. 8 from 18!! WOW! Anyway - you did it once, you will do it again, despite what you gain. Please be easy on yourself - if you feel fatigued and sick, don't feel guilty about getting hwat rest you can get (with your 2 kids).

About ultrasounds.. I've had 6...

I had a miscarriage in July, and 2 chemical pregnancies prior to that (after not having any problems with my first pregnancy - either in conceiving or carrying).

So this time they did one at 5 wks and 8 wks to check the sac/hb.

Then they did one at 13 wks, because they couldn't hear the hb (placenta was in the way).

Then they did one at 19 wks - a level II, since i'm 35 and refused amnio and afp.. and then at 22, since the level II didn't show the heart very well (she was not cooperating).

Then I just had one friday because I measured small and the nurse was nervous about it (she had never seen me before). Basically the baby is fine, but like before, I will have a small baby (probably less than 7 lbs. I was less than 7lbs, as was my husband, who is now 6'2").

Well, I finally had my first dr. appt. yesterday and they confirmed that I AM pregnant! My due date is March 4. I go next Tuesday for my first ultrasound, which surprised me. I didn't think I would have it done so soon, but I'm really excited about it! My husband is going with me, so it should be extra special.

I haven't been feeling that well for about two weeks now. I have no energy and I have to force myself to try to do some sort of exercise. It's really been depressing me, since I'm used to working out for 1 1/2 to 2 hours 5-6 days a week! These days, I have been walking outside or doing either a cardio video or weight video. I feel pretty good after I work out, it's just forcing myself to do it that's hard! ;-)

I have been eating pretty much what I usually eat, but noticed I'm craving lots of protein! I need to focus on eating more fruits and vegetables. One thing that helps with my queesiness(sp?) is peanut butter sandwiches! Go figure! :)

Till next time...
