Pregnancy Check in Week of 6/20

Hey guys - no word from Christie - I wonder if she'll have a more exciting post for us later!! I'll keep my fingers crossed. Gosh, I can't wait until it's my turn to have my due date right around the corner!

Well, I finally had a good week. I am feeling much better in the mornings (nauseous-wise) and was actually able to workout in the mornings again. It helps so much as I am so much less likely to put off a workout as I get tired or too busy with work or other commitments. I hope I can stick with it. Of course, I started to get a sinus-type cold towards the end of the week, but so far it has been mild enough that I haven't had to modify yet.

Sun: Off
Mon: All Step
Tues: 10 10 10
Wed: Step and Intervals
Thur: Cardio Kicks up until the interval portion
Fri: Off
Sat: Leaner Legs

I have noticed that stepping seems so much easier for me than hi-lo or kickboxing as my joints just get so sore (my feet and ankles hurt quite a bit during the kickboxing tape) and my uterus feels uncomfortable when I am jumping around on the floor vs the step. I haven't needed to make many modifications yet. I have moved to a 6" board (quite awhile ago) and am only using 25 lbs on leaner legs, eliminating plie squats. I kept getting a pain in my quad that would last for 4-days when I was doing the plies tape. I stopped them and I haven't had that pain since. :)

Hope everyone had a great week! My 28-week appt is on Wed.

Hi ladies! Stacey, I am so glad you are feeling better physically and emotionally. I will continue to keep you in my prayers! I wish I could get myself up in the AM to exercise. I do occasionally and it is so nice to have it out of the way. So, your BD is in October too, mine is 10-28. That is so strange about our histories mirroring. And yes, my daughter is a sweetheart... most days... her head does spin occasionally. ;) BTW, I found that stepping was more comfortable too. Oh, and, thank you for your kind words.

Christy, I hope you are doing well. Maybe busy holding your baby. :) I haven’t had the opportunity to preview any of the other P90X tapes. Have you?

Amanda, have you gotten your P90X tapes yet?

Well, my workout log is basically nonexistent. I did PS BBA on Monday and PS CST on Tuesday... I think... Wednesday the baby decided to “rearrange” himself (he positioned himself head down) and I had too much pressure and discomfort to workout. I tried later in the week but couldn’t. I am planning on walking and trying to get some weights in this week, but my doc stripped my membranes today. I was contracting while grocery shopping, but the contractions have stopped since I arrived home. Maybe I should try one of Cathe’s cardio tapes to keep those contractions going. I will see how I feel.

I hope all the mommies to be have a great week!

Hi there, Ladies!
I thought I would give you a quick update. My feet are definitely feeling better but I'm not out of the woods yet. They are still sore at night and I have to wait until that goes away before I know they are truly on the path of healing before I can add any significant impact.

I took a week off with no activity except getting around for chores, shopping, etc. But last week I designed a workout that I do sitting on the stability ball or leaning on the high step utilizing hand weights, tubing, and ankles weights. It's off my feet but I'm getting some muscle work. I do 3-4 different types of exercises for each muscle group (except abs) doing 3-4 sets each. I do high reps at different tempos since the weight is lighter, until a comfortable exhaustion. So I'm getting something of a workout! No cardio, not even walking yet, but I'll add that when I know I won't injure them. This is basically what I'll be doing until my feet feel better (which means I'm not icing them anymore!)

Sun-off
Mon-biceps, triceps & shoulders using hand weights
Tues-chest (push-ups, tubing), back (weights, tubing), abs (on all fours)
Weds-legs (ankle weights)
Thurs-biceps, triceps, shoulders a.m.; pre-natal yoga (no standing postures)
Fri- chest, back, abs
Sat-off

Stacey - so glad to hear your feeling better these days. Your workouts look great.
Autumn - you are getting so close now! How exciting!
Christy - hope all is well and soon you'll have a birth story to post!

Have a great week, everyone!

Hi Autumn and Diana. It was great to hear from both of you.

Autumn - I can't believe your dr. stripped your membranes already. I went into labor THE day my doctor did that. Good luck! How'd you talk him/her into it? I am dying for my new OB to strip mine as soon as possible (not before it's safe of course), but don't know if she will...?

Diana - Wow! You are so creative. Kudos to you for still finding a way to workout. So many people would look for any excuse NOT to workout and you are doing everything you can to still get one in. Isn't it great to be so committed to something so good for you?

I hope that Christies lack of a post means exciting baby news. I keep checking back hoping to hear something! I am so excited for her!

Don't you all just HATE popups!?! I have had about 10 or 15 since coming to Cathe's site this afternoon and I've only been on the computer for 5 minutes! GRRR!

Take care - hope we hear from more pregnant women out there!

Hi Stacey! Yes, I was surprised that he stripped them too. I had only mentioned it to one of the NPs... I don't know if she passed it along to him or not... I was surprised because he is less agressive. Anyway, when he checked me yesterday he said "I stripped your membranes 'a little'". I lost my mucus plug last night. That is about the only progress. You should hear my other plans to help mother nature along... it is dangerous having medical knowledge. :) I feel comofortable though... I am 37 plus weeks (37 is considered term... you ladies probably know that:). Ok, this may be icky to some but you know, he may have done it to keep me from doing it... my co-workers tattled that I was checking my own cervix (don't try this at home ladies :) so he may have guessed I may be capable of stripping my membranes. :)

Diana, I am impressed too! I hope your feet fully recover soon! Stacey is correct that most people would use this as an exscuse not to workout... keep up the good work!

I am checking for updates from Christy too. She is due today, I hope she is holding her little miracle.

Oh, I was having pop-up problems too. I visited some site and then I was constatly bombarded with them. Hubby got STOPzilla for me... no problems now.

Stacey, I hope we get some more ladies to join too.

Take care ladies!

Autumn - let me know if there are any other "good secrets" to help mother nature along. I am definitely going to start drinking raspberry leaf tea at the 36 week point. I would check my own cervix if I knew what to look for. :) Wouldn't it be so nice if you got to miss out on those last 3 miserable weeks of pregnancy? I hope we can all be so lucky.

Thank you so much for the STOPzilla info. I am definitely going to look into this. We didn't know there was anything you could do about them. Even our computer guy said that they are just an annoying thing about having DSL. Where did you get the software? On the web?

Take care!

Stacey

Hi Autmun & Stacey -
Another suggestion about the pop-ups, I have a pop-up blocker installed on my Google task bar that works beautifully. At this time it has blocked 501 pop-ups. I'm on the Internet everyday for work and I think maybe one or two have gotten through in that total 501 in the past couple months since it was installed.

Also, thanks for the compliments about my workouts. I'm a certified instructor so it's hard to keep me sidelined! I look at it more like a challenge than an excuse not to exercise.

Stacey, I plan on drinking some raspberry leaf tea, also! Some women at my office (they see me about once a month since I work from home in a different city) predicted I would have the baby sooner since I'm carrying so low. Who knows!! But I wouldn't complain if the baby wanted to come a tad early :). And Autumn, it sounds like your baby is just about ready! Keep us posted.

Hi everyone. I had a pretty good week last week and this week I have been really trying to eat better. i had a doctors appointment and he sys i need to slow down on the weight gain. A few people I am pregnant with though are gaining more and their doctor says they are fine.

Here are my workouts.
Mon-lg
tues-PS shoulders,tri,bis
Wed-off
thurs-off
fri - firm total body tape
Sat - water aerobics
Sun - cycle

I looked at the P90X Plyo dvd and the back and chest. They look really good. Now cathy looks like she is coming out with the same kind of thing so I was a little bummed because now I will want that too.

I have next week off so i can not wait!

Hope everyone else is doing good.

Stacey, I do know some other secretes… I guess they are not secretes since you can find them on the web. You just have to be soooooo careful… I research on the web for my clients and I run across many, many sites that do not have updated information. Anyway, I’ll email you some info. I have to admit… it is not easy checking myself… it is awkward to say the least especially since I am used to doing this from another direction when I do paps and pelvics… but my findings agree with the doc’s so far. ;)

My hubby found the STOPzilla online… he just searched for “pop-up blocker” and it was in the top 10. A free trial period is usually offered… STOPzilla was 15 days… so you can shop around... and you can stop pop-ups on DSL.

Diana, I hope this baby is ready soon. The consensus is this weekend. I started having contractions every 7-10 minutes at about 1 am, but they stopped. My 4 y/o daughter keeps asking me if I am ready to go to the hospital, she is ready.

Amanda, your workouts look great!! Doctors are inconsistent on the weight gain issue. I gained 44 pounds with my daughter and my doc never said one word about it. I was considered underweight though. This pregnancy is headed the same direction (I have gained 38-40 depending on the day) and my docs (new docs) tell me it is fine. You would think there would be more consistency.

I want the new videos too. I prepared my hubby for the Cathe preorder. :)

Have a good week ladies.

I forgot I wanted to ask everyone if they had a workout plan for after they the baby. Autumn I know we have talked about P90X but do you think we will be ready to just jump right into that or were you planning a slow ramp up to those? Just trying ot get some ideas. It would be helpful to get this from people who know what it is like after giving birth. This is my first so I think I am going ot be back in the game like the next week. Am i totally insane or is that possible.

Well, I wouldn't say you are totally insane. :) What do you mean when you say "get back into the game the next week"? According to ACOG's 2002 recommendations, prepregnancy excercise routines may be resumed when it is safe physically and medically. This will vary from one woman to another according to the current guidelines. In fact, these 2002 guidelines state that some women can return to their routine "within days of delivery". Since your doctor is familiar with your history and will be familiar with your labor and delivery, I would recommend you discuss this with him/her.

After my daughter, I started with kegels and pelvic tilts the day she was born... the first week post-partum I used Cindy Crawford's "A New Dimension" video. The second week I began introducing more vigorous acitivity, for example Tae Bo with modification. I introduced light weights (nothing heavier than the baby) the 2nd or 3rd week. I had an elective surgery 8/30 (my daughter was born 7/31), so I was not able to resume my prepregnancy routine until 6 weeks post-partum. If it had not been for the surgery, I would have been ready sooner. I monitored my lochia (the vaginal bleeding/discharge post-partum), how I felt, milk supply, etc. There were times my lochia would increase, so I knew I had to decrease the intensity. I listened to my body. :)

I have been playing around with rotations for the post-partum period. If I have an uncomplicated vaginal delivery again, I will probably resume activity as I did after my daughter. I am just not sure exactly when I will be ready for P90X. Maybe 10-12 week post-partum at the latest. I am just not sure yet. I may want 6 weeks to just bond with baby. :)

Hope this helps. I'll be glad to answer any other questions.

After my 2nd pregnancy, I received Cathe's cross-train express series (it was brand new at the time). At 2 weeks post-partum, I began using the tapes, with modifications. I noticed a pickup in my bleeding, and eased off a bit. I was also going on 3-4 mile walks. I eased into the routine until I was about 6 weeks post-partum, and then began resuming pretty normal workouts. I worked out up until the end of my pregnancy and felt wonderful, had a great, easy birth and felt good during my recovery period. If I was having a hard day, I didn't workout that day. I did do Leaner Legs for the first time on Thanksgiving. I gave birth on 11/1, so 3-4 weeks after she was born, I had resumed weight-lifting. The important thing is to just listen to your body. You will know if it's too much. There is plenty of time to get back into shape, and really, I didn't feel like I had lost my wind, or much of my strength training abilities. All in all, it was a very positive experience.

Thanks for the responses ladies. I am glad i asked because I thought I would be able to weight lift before cardio. I was just thinking that standing there lifting upper body would be better then running and hopping around. I guess not. I was just planning on walking and doing light weights until 6 weeks and then starting to jog and do heavier cardio and weights until I feel ready to do P90X. Thanks again for the advice:)
