Pregnancy Check In -- 6/13/04

Hello Ladies!

I'm still here! :) Had a doctor's appointment this morning and there is no progress again. It's been three weeks of the same thing... So, I'm resolved to picking up my workouts...starting today. I think I have been babying myself a little too much with just walking - besides, I miss my aerobic tapes. It was really nasty & hot and humid the last few weeks and that is so unmotivating to workout in. This week is going to be in the upper 70's - much better!

Anyway, my workouts this week were 5 days of walking.

Hope everyone had a great week!

Hi Christy - I'm trying to remember your due date. I think it's 6/29...? I feel your pain. I remember with my first, when I was checked at 36 weeks, my cervix was ripe and starting to dilate and he told me that he doesn't like to tell too many people this because they get excited, but that with the condition of my cervix, I was one of his patients who had a chance, just a chance of going early. When I made it to 40+ weeks, he said he was really surprised and didn't think I'd be there at that point. I remember week 36 there was progress, week 37, nothing, week 38 progress, week 39, nothing, week 40 nothing, prior to induction at 41 weeks, I went into labor on the full moon. Beautiful delivery though. Very fast. 5 hours after arriving at the hospital.

Same story with my 2nd, except that I had her on her due date.

This go round, I am going to BEG the dr. to strip the membranes from the uterine wall if I'm at all ready by 37 weeks. Ask her to have mercy on me. We'll see...(that's what got my labor going with my daughter). I had her 1 1/2 hours after arriving at the hospital. I thought they'd send me home because I was in no pain whatsoever. Once I got there though, different story. The last hour was pretty tough. I didn't get an epidural with her, but did with my son. Had I known how fast she was going to come though, I don't think that hour would have been so bad. I was really glad that I didn't opt for the epidural.

My week is a little sad. My husband and I were in Seattle last weekend and walked 15+ miles in my tall boots (I don't know what I was thinking, but I always spare comfort for fashion) so I was so sore everywhere when I got home. Then, we all ended up getting summer colds, so I was lazy and ended up waiting until Thursday to start working out again. I think I'll do much better this week. (I hope so anyway). Plus, our weather for Seattle, has been in the 90's. Basically unheard of for June. Really makes me dread the hotter months that are just around the corner. It is really hard to workout when it's so hot. I have been waiting until the afternoon to workout because that's when I feel better (my stomach is still queasy) and p.m workouts seem to agree with me more, but they are much harder to fit in. Like on Saturday, when we had company, I wasn't able to fit it in. :-( I really hope to get back on a morning schedule after baby comes. I loved that before I was pg, I was done working out and ready by 9:30 (my kids were ready and the beds were all made too.) Now I'm just getting off the couch at 9:30. :-(

Sunday: 3 mile walk
Monday: Off
Tuesday: Off
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Step Works and BBA
Friday: Leaner Legs and 2 mile walk
Saturday: Off (but cleaned my house and grocery shopped and cooked. Didn't sit down til 7:00 that night. I was EXHAUSTED!)

My goal this week is 4-5 workouts in spite of the heat.

Hope all of you are doing well, and good luck having baby early Christy. I remember the day or so before I had my son, I climbed Stinson - a very HIGH hill in Gig Harbor hoping it would do something. I thought I must look pretty silly to all the cars driving by. I had to stop and sit on a bench half-way up the hill. That night, I was so depressed that I asked my husband to take me to Dairy Queen. He didn't want to go, but took me anyway. I wanted to eat inside. He just wanted to get home, but obliged. I ordered a blizzard and a water. The water was served in a blizzard cup. He thought they were both blizzards and said - IS that all for YOU! We still laugh about it to this day.

Hello ladies! I hope you are doing well and staying cool. We have gotten some cooler weather (80s), which had been such a relief. I would love to take some walks, but I just can’t tolerate the hot, humid weather we have here in MO. I am sooooo hot this pregnancy. The house stays around 65, my poor husband and daughter. My mother actually brings sweats with her when she visits (she has Scleroderma though and can’t tolerate anything below 80 without experiencing ischemia to her hands and feet).

Christy, hang in there. It feels like the baby will never get here, but he or she will! I have previewed 2 of the P90X videos, and I just can’t wait. DH and I have watched Chest & Back and Plyometrics. (yes, he actually watched them :) 12 chest & back exercises (variation of push-ups and pull-ups with 3 familiar weight exercises) each exercise lasting 0:32 – 1:04; then repeat the cycle in opposite order (so, 2 then 1, 4 then 3, etc.); 3:22 cool down. You choose the max number of reps to complete during the allotted time for each exercise. The plyometrics looks like so much fun.

Diana, I hope your feet are recovering. Hang in there.

Allison(sis), I hope you are feeling better. Isn’t it amazing how nausea can disrupt our lives?

Amanda, I hope you check in this week if you are around.

Stacey, you did Leaner Legs... not a bad week if you ask me. :) BTW, I hope you are feeling better. :)

Allison(103), what kind of information are you looking for on Cathe’s videos? I love all Cathe’s videos, but I reach for the CTX over and over. Although, I love the Pure Strength and Pyramids at the moment. What can I say? They are all EXCELLENT! You are correct about looking for a plateau breaker; pregnancy is the time for maintaining fitness level. Don’t be hard on yourself. As Sheila says, this is only a season in your life. Enjoy it!

I had to modify and substitute this week, and my cardio was not at the level it has been. Here is my log:

Sunday: OFF
Monday: Timesaver #1
Tuesday: Timesaver #2 (substituted Basic Step)
Wednesday: Timesaver # 3 (mostly walked during the cardio, because I was contracting)
Thursday: Timesaver # 4
Friday: Timesaver #5
Saturday: OFF

My poor husband... he thought the nursery was completed. Well, I decided I didn’t like the color of the furniture. Since we replaced the carpet with hardwood, the stained furniture just didn’t appeal to me... there was just too much wood. So, we are painting the furniture. I still need to pick up a few things and will probably make a run to Babies R Us this weekend.

Well, I am off to get ready for my massage. Take care!

Autumn, Do you work? Is this your first? You just seem to have so much energy and to be so excited. I feel old and tired this pregnancy, but I'm sure that it's been mostly because I am depressed and this baby was unexpected - I don't have all that excitement to keep me going. You're workouts are just fantastic. That's where I was with my daughter (I was new to working out when pregnant with my son, but remember tons of nights, being on the treadmill in just my bra, panties, socks and shoes with a fan blowing right on me when pg with him. I hate the thought of evening workouts this time, although I have done them a few times and am always really surprised to see that I do just fine. I feel totally wiped come evening).

I think I'm going to start feeling better really soon. My husband and I just had so much bad stuff happen to us all at once, for a long time, since it happened right when we found out about the baby, I thought it was just him. But when I actually sit down and think about it, I think it's more my business than anything that is bothering me. My business partner and I ended up losing 2700 per month in revenue since March due to a combination of reasons - a couple clients going out of business, one trying e-mail vs. bulk mail, another using a different source of advertising, etc. but I just realized, I own my own company, I decide how much $ I make. If I want to make more, just pickup those phones and get to work. We started cold-calling in earnest last week. And you know...no one is mean to us. We've gotten some great leads. Even those who are not interested, who cares. It's not like it affects my life greatly. I know it's always fun to look for the easy way out, but sometimes one needs to put in the effort. In fact, just putting in the effort has made me feel way better this past week. In the past, we hardly ever cold-called for business, but I think we have reached a point in our growth, where to maintain, or get ahead, we need to always be adding to our pipeline. It was a valuable lesson for us. Sorry to ramble so much guys...take care, and I look forward to hearing from everyone.

Hi everyone! Autumn I ended up buying the P90X set. Keep the previews coming because I am not sure when i will get it. I am excited to have a plan now for how i am going to get back in shape. It will keep me motivated and focused. It is nice I can do this all at home too. I have a gym membership and I was thinking of getting a trainer after I had the baby but I was not sure when i would go. Here are my workouts for this week. I was pretty proad of myself with the workouts but I need help with the diet big time. I have a doctors appoinment next week and I am afraid about getting on that scale.

Mon: Leg and Glutes
Tues:eek:ff
Wed: first 35 min of KPC, PS shoulders, bis and tricips and abs
Thurs:spinning class
Fri:Firm total body workout
Sat: spinning class
Sun: Cardio and weights

I also went for a few walks at lunch or after work.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Amanda

Hi ladies! You are all doing so well!!!! Anyway, I know that one of you likes the Slim Series and used it prior to getting pregnant and saw good results. I wish that I could remember who it was!:( Anyway, I was wondering if you followed it to the "T" or if you mixed in other workouts too? I am starting to get some good definition in my arms with the series and my legs seem to be leaning down. I just wanted to hear your experience with the program. Thanks in advance!

Hi Autumn,

Thanks so much for writing back. I really enjoyed the high impact floor work on MIC and was wondering what other tapes have that. I've only done 20-40 minute tapes this week because I've hit that first trimester exhaustion already. Perhaps it's the heat...or chasing my 4 and 2 year olds!

Hope everyone is hanging in there!

Allison

Allison, Any of the CTX cardios will work but I also like the step work in Cardio and Weights, there are a few shorter premixes for Step blast that are really good, and there is a 37 min premix in Kick Punch and Crunch I really like. Do you have any of these DVDs?

Stacey, this is my second baby. I have a daughter who will be 4 y/o on July 31. I work outside the home. I was working 2-3 days as a Nurse Practitioner in a busy family planning clinic. I had to travel 1-1 ½ hours to provide services to rural area one day a week plus the additional 1-2 days at the main office. I was filling in until another NP was found… for almost a year. This is my first week that starts my one-day a week schedule that I will be on until maternity leave begins. I would like to continue working one day a week or maybe two days a month after the baby arrives. It will depend on how things are going… I want to be home more than anything… but I do better if I have a little time out of the house. I also teach for the community college (Maternity clinicals and two independent Med Term courses), but I am not teaching this summer.

Stacey, I went through a depression too... and I definitely did not feel excited about the baby. I had an emotionally challenging year. It started when I had a miscarriage on my birthday in 2002. We started trying again as soon as we were given the green light in December. I started infertility treatments 3/2004. My dad passed away Easter Sunday 2003. My mom’s best friend passed away 9/5/03; her only sibling (my favorite aunt) passed away 9/10/03. All the loss plus the failure of the achieving pregnancy was A LOT to grieve, but I realize now I never allowed myself to grieve because there was so much going on. I took a TTC break in 10/04. The holidays were approaching, the anniversary of the miscarriage, my dad’s and aunt’s birthdays were coming up in December, her friend’s birthday was January... I concluded there was enough to handle without infertility treatments. My husband and I discussed how cool it would be if I had a 28 day cycle following the treatments, because I would ovulate/conceive on my birthday. It was certainly a happier thought than a miscarriage. Well, it happened. That is exactly when I conceived according to the fertility signs. Now, I really believe this was a gift from God. When I saw those two lines, I knew He had His arms wrapped around me. I had every reason in the world to be walking on air, and I did until the holidays. The grief hit me so hard I felt I was drowning. I kept telling myself this is ridiculous... there is soooooo much to grateful for in my life... but no matter how great your life is... you still feel sadness, loss, disappointment, etc. Of course, pregnancy hormones make for an emotional time anyway. So, I gave myself the opportunity to grieve and work through the emotions.

I won’t tell you I know how you feel, but I can identify with the feelings you described. I just want you to know you are not alone, and if you need to chat privately feel free to email me. Take care!

Autumn

Allison, I agree with Amanda about CTX... just love them! You asked about high impact floor work, I honestly can't remember what video offers it. I love Cathe's kickboxing tapes... Cardio Kikcs, KPC, and CTX kickboxing. I also love the step tapes... I think Rhythmic Step is my all time favorite though. Oh, it is just so difficult to choose.

So, Amanda, gave in to the P90X. I haven't had the opportunity to preview any of the others. I am trying to plan my post-partum shape-up. I am hoping to get started with P90X soon, but I don't want to push it. I guess we will have a Post-partum P90X check in. ;)

Take care ladies!

Autumn

Autumn and Stacey,
Just wanted to say thanks for your encouraging words about 3 weeks and no progress. I'm much better about it these days. The baby will be here and I'm just taking it day by day - smelling the roses ;) It's given me an opportunity to prepare a little more for the big event and to get my house in order before it happens and finish up some things at work. Thanks ladies for being there!

Sara,
I used the Slim Series for a while before I got pregnant and had awesome results. I followed the Slim Series rotation pretty much to a "T" (all tapes 1 time per week except that stretching tape -- I usually took the day off instead) for about 9 weeks. The first 3 weeks were with a crappy diet and the last 6 weeks were with a cleaned up diet. This is when I saw the best results. I started adding Cathe tapes in after that and doing 2-3 Slim Series workouts (my favorites: Shape It Up, Tone it Up and Tear it up).
I noticed that after I started adding the Cathe workouts back in (my favorites: Boot Camp, Circuit Max, IMAX1) that I was able to maintain the results I got from the Series. In fact, I probably continued to loose inches. The diet helps sooo much for this. I think overall I lost about 10 pounds and 1-2 dress sizes... Hope this helps and good luck! :)

Autumn,
I got my P90x last night and watched the Plyometrics DVD. It looks awesome! Hubby was busy so he did not watch it but, I know he will love it. Tony is fun to listen to. Hubby keeps asking me when I am going to start the program - he's concerned about the wait and if he starts it now, we will be in different phases. He wants to do it together! Shock & Awe! My big thing with him right now is helping him to workout on a consistent basis. If he feels pain the next day, he whines and feels that he did something wrong...He took a peek at that binders that came with the videos and is impressed by what he saw. However, I think he's a bit overwhelmed that he will need to "go psycho" in order to get those results. He's naturally thin and wants to gain muscle. I can't wait to preview the other videos. We are going to watch the intro DVD together to see how it all works together.

Amanda,
I love Hi/Lo as well! I do step workouts on occasion, but, I don't enjoy it as much as a hi/lo workout. My favorite Cathe Hi/lo tapes are Circuit Max (there is a little step in it which can easily be modifed to hi/lo), Boot Camp and Interval Max1. Some other ones are Cardio Kicks, CTX, and Kick, Punch and Crunch.

Take care ladies!

Hey Autumn - Thanks for your message. My heart goes out to you. I have been so blessed and have not yet lost someone very close to me. I can't begin to imagine all that you must have went through.

Thank you for your kind e-mail. I have been feeling so much better the past couple of weeks, I really think I've worked through a lot of issues and that I feel like I'm in control again. The hardest part about depression is feeling like your life is spinning out of control and you don't know/don't care enough to get back in the driver's seat. Once I started taking action to change other issues that were bothering me, I felt as if a huge weight had been lifted.

We both had a miscarriage on our birthday's. Mine was in 10-2001, and now we're both pregnant at the same time. I conceived either on Christmas or New Years, which to me, are both pretty significant dates. I would say Christmas as in it's a gift, or New Years to new beginnings. I feel like he's the same little soul who tried to come into our lives back in 2001.

Our daughters are the same age. Mine will be 4 November 1st. Aren't they sweet? My son is great, too. :)

Take care,
Stacey

Christy - Thank you so much for your reply!!! Oh my gosh - you are so close!!!!!!!!!! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
