Powerstrike review

Venus

Cathlete
I finally got my powerstrike DVD (the only one they put out on DVD, millenium 3 I think). Several asked me to post what I thought once I got it. I have the flu right now so I have only previewed it but here are my initial impressions:

The Good:
Easy to learn
Emphasis on good form
Saftey tips given
1 hour long (I like any cardio to be at least 1 hour)
Low-impact (the only thing I saw that would be impact at all were scissor jumps and you can modify those easily)
I liked the instructors. They were "real" and not cheesy.

The Bad:
More kickboxing than cardio. Not saying it wouldn't get my heartrate up, but it's no KPC!
It's more like the "drills" part of KPC than the first half and the drills are really easy, not complicated (which can be good from learning but bad when it gets boring).
They are really sweaty. I mean really sweaty. Studio must have been overly hot.
Weird camera zoom-ins on sweaty armpits etc. Not only is that not something I want to look at, but it also wasn't helpful from a knowing what they were doing perspective. They would zoom in so close you couldn't tell what moves they were doing.

Overall: I think it's well worth the $24 (that's the DVD price). Production quality was not Cathe (but what is?!), but it was decent. The workout was good for a day when I need something lighter. I have bad knees so a low impact workout to mix in is welcome.

I think that's what threw my off on this dvd the weird close ups and It just didn't click for me at all. Like I said over on WW some either like it or don't ..I didn't sold that baby off quick :)
I'm just glad you got it because I know how hard you were looking for it. :)
Take care of yourself lots of vit. c and rest !

I agree that the camera work is really awful (how often do we need to see a close up of a bead of sweat?!)
I disagree that "more kickboxing than cardio" is "Bad." But that's just a matter of personal preference (and once you do the workout, you'll figure out why they are sweating so much!).
M3 is definitely a bit easier than the other two Millenium workouts. It's a shame they chose to put only this one on DVD, as it isn't necessarily the most typical example of a Powerstrike workout. I do like that it builds up gradually in the beginning, which is good for working on form (power and speed and range of motion).

I might write them and suggest they bundle the first 2 videos onto a DVD. I'd definitely buy it. We don't own a VCR (at least not that is hooked up) nor do I want to buy a video knowing it will wear out. You are not the first person I've heard say the first 2 were better than the 3rd.

Venus,

Great breakdown and I agree with all your comments. I don't remember armpits but I'll make sure to pay attention for that next time I do the workout.

I do like the "realness" of the instructors and felt they were genuinely having a good time.

I own all 3 of the powerstrike workouts. But I rarely do them.My arms are so sore when I am finished with powerstirke.Maybe that is what workout I will do on Friday morning.
I have to agree,I didn't like the close ups either but once I get a workout down pat, I never look at the t.v. I also don't like the fact that they play the same song over and over. And don't the first and second one just have the same song? Its one thing to do a workout over and over and get tired of it but you only have to do these a couple of times and you just get tired of the music
