Hey I was wondering if anyone could recommend a pretty advanced power yoga dvd? I want a good dvd that will get me sweating and my heart rate up while still being relaxing... any suggestions? Thanks!

Lauren

Hi Lauren - I like Bryan Kest's Power Yoga collection (3 separate workouts) and Eion Finn's Power Yoga for Happiness.

Both include modifications to make it as advanced as you want. I'm sure others will chime in more titles.

Thanks Gayle! i was thinkin about the bryan kest one but some reviews said he's kind of an irritating instructor lol

Bryan is not that bad. I enjoy him especially lookin' at all that hair. :D LOL Mark Blanchard is not bad, kinda sort of reminds me of Tony Horton. I also enjoy Rodney Yee and Baron Baptiste. Rainbeau Mars is a good one, she is kinda of funny as well.

Bryan Kest's yoga is very good. Some people do not like how he touches while adjusting his students into alignment. Some people dont like his style of motivation and instruction - flowery analogies and a bit over the top. He also seems very aware of himself - almost like he is posing as a model.

I can get past it all for the yoga, though I often wish he would talk less.

My absolute favorite advanced vinyasa recommendation is Yoga Shakti by Shiva Rea. It has a matrix menu, multiple long practices (premixes but with plenty of new material in each). The production values are amazing. The routines are wonderful.

I also like Rodney Yee's Power Yoga Total Body a lot. Rodney Yee's instruction style is minimalist in the dvd in stark contrast to Bryan Kest.

And if you dont mind wordy/woo-woo sounding instructions, Baron Baptiste's yoga is excellent for strength building/sweaty sessions.

Bryan Kest is an amazing power yoga instructor...in fact I consider him THE power yoga instructor since his website is www.poweryoga.com. I met him in person and took a weekend workshop with him, and I can't say enough good things about him. I love his style of teaching. He is passionate about yoga. And his modifications and ways of helping you learn to listen to your body are great. I highly recommend his dvd's.

For tough, sweaty, challenging power yoga, I would definitely recommend Mark Blanchard. I have his Sedona series (all except Stretch) and his new True Power Yoga series. Both of them are great. Although I would much rather be adjusted by Bryan Kest than Mark! LOL!

Mark does lots of chaturangas, standing splits, tough arm balances (handstand, forearm stand, headstand), jump back from crow to chaturanga, straight leg levitation holds, 1-legged boat.

I love the Brian Kest Power Yoga DVD. I yes, he may adjust away as far as I'm concerned. He's definitely a hottie.
I also have Shiva Rea Yoga Shakti and Lunar Flow, which are excellent, although wow did I choose the wrong practice last time - way more advanced than I am. I would also agree with the Rodney Yee comments. I have a couple of his discs as well, and they are excellent.

Lately I've been doing the 40 min Yoga for Weightloss by Brian Kest. I wish he didn't talk so much in the beginning before starting, you can't forward ahead. The poses are repeated 5 times with breathing in and out and then holding for 5 seconds. Really opens me up and does some toning. Good for a summer quicky. Otherwise, the Power Yoga is my favorite series. Sequencing is fantastic.

I also like the old VHS of Baron Baptist for sequencing. I'm used to his voice now and he doesn't bug me as much.

I agree, it is annoying to have to listen to him talk and not be able to fast forward through it. I wonder why its like that?

I'll have to check out Yoga for Weightloss, it sounds interesting.

I need to try these. I'm in the minority here who actually enjoys Yoga X, but that is the extent of my "power yoga" :)
