Power Hour

Power Hour....obviously is a weight work out.I would imagine you knew that.It starts out with a great warm up.The music all through out the work out is awesome.
1.You start with squats, then plie squats.
2.Chest.
3.Back
4.Lunges and static lunges.Lots of small presses in the leg work.Called low ends. And you diffently feel them.
5.Shoulders
6.Biceps
7.Triceps.
8.Abs.
After each muscle group, you stretch. It is about 1 hour long.It is a great work out.I would diffently get it if I were you.
I think that is aboutit, hope I helped.
Oh,and if you plan on doing cardio the same day you do power hour.I would recommend doing cardio first. After lifting weights my legs are always to weak to jump around.

Lori said it all very well!

I only want to add that is one heck of a weight workout and I much prefer it to the "Slow and Heavy" series. With "Slow and Heavy" I never feel fulfilled that I've had a thorough workout.

With "Power Hour" I feel like I've done a complete full body and challenging weight workout. It is my favorite all weight Cathe video.

The music makes it fun too!

Ah yes - the music in PH is great! Helps get me through those low-ends...

What makes PH different from other strength workouts such as Pure Strength or Slow & Heavy is that it is designed to promote muscular endurance rather than build muscle. There are a lot more reps and they move more quickly than PS/S&H, so you tend to need a lighter weight load. Also, Cathe varies the counts within sets. For example, on static lunges you'll start off with single counts (1-1), then switch to 3-1 (i.e. 3 counts down, 1 count up), then to low-ends, then singles again, etc. There is a lot of variety in this one to keep you on your toes!

It's a good one. Go for it!

Shows how we are all so different. I must be made of fast twitch muscle fibers cuz I HATE Powerhour. I do it, but I hate it. And Lori comments above that there is a stretch after each bodypart. Well, I must have blinked and missed it, cuz Powerhour is extremely lacking in stretching. Very frantic pace. I find that I start to get that "achey muscle" feeling, like when you know lactic acid is really just pooling in there. If I don't stop and stretch this it is kinda uncomfortable. For this reason, I way prefer S&H, but do get how some don't feel they got a workout. S&H is kindof deceiving, especially if you were doing PH before. You will feel lazy for awhile. Just remember though, for S&H the really good things are happening while you rest!!

PH is great, but if you like to lift heavy, it is not the way to go...

I have to agree with Janice on the stretching bit - PH moves fast. I suppose it depends on the person, but I too need to stretch more thoroughly after each exercise than is done in the video. I just pause the dvd and have my stretch... "But not too long. We're taking a break not a vacation right?" ;-)

Janice,
I do agree with you that I do like S&H too. HOwever, I also like Power Hour. I did S&H biceps and triceps for the first time today. I can already feel it. I did have to really concentrate though. It was a lot of fun for something different.

I have to ask you though about your comment "good things are happening while you rest". Can you expand on this? I thought the rests were a bit long and was tempted to fast forward a couple of them for time sake. However, figured there was probably a reason for them. I know it has something to do with the lactic acid??? Right??

Thanks,
Pammer

Hey Pammer!

Actually, I was not referring to the space of time in between sets, but to all the time in between your workouts. Lifting heavier requires heavier rest and more recup. I was trying to say that although S&H seems easier, don't underestimate the results it can give!!

Because of its pace, I consider PH one of Cathe's toughest workouts I have done so far. Definity the toughest weight tape. I think I am going to work it in my PS rotation on Saturdays and make sure to pause in between sets for more of a stretch. I just need a longer stretch time. But I did PS today and compared to PH, it feels like a walk in the park. Almost felt like i didn't even do anything!!LOL!!

I just don't like how you cannot estimate your gain in strength with PH. It is so fast that it is just HARD no matter what weight you are using. I always end that tape feeling like a real weakling, don't know why. Gee....could it be that I have to go down to 5lbs. by the time all those freakin' crazy eights are over????(Normally I can curl 15 lbs). I just prefer to feel strong and S&H gives me that!!

And Pammer..

I am ALWAYS tempted to fast forward on S&H when Cathe gets real chatty (heard it a million times:). But, do realize that the stretching is working to increase your flexibility. Also, all that deep breathing Cathe makes you do gets oxygen to the muscles so that they can perform for you longer and harder. Remember, the focus is on strength here and to handle VERY heavy poundages you need longer rests (even though you don't think you do:)
