Power Hour or Slow & Heavy-Help!

Hello Everyone -
I got a DVD Player for Christmas - Great Big YEAHY! Now, I'm faced with deciding on my First CATHE DVD. I have to say, I've been sick for three weeks and feel like I've never exercised before. (There were days when I would bemoan my workoutless existence to my husband as he would get home from the gym!)

My question to you all: Should I start out with Power Hour, or would you recommend the Slow & Heavy Series? In a sense, I feel like S&H would be better simply because I have MIS & BodyMax on VHS already. (I want the new workouts!!) However; I just read someone's post that PowerHour gave definition without bulking up, whereas S&H would promote more muscle mass. I'm not overly concerned with bulking up, but I want to start back into workouts and not get discouraged. (The thread I saw mentioned that S&H takes some time to "show".) My ultimate goal is to get a "cut look" (isn't everyone's?). Right now, I would settle for more definition. I know I need cardio as well to accomplish this, so I'm going to attempt a variation of a rotation Cathe posted. (Mon:StepWorks, Tues:powerMax, Weds:CircuitMax, Thurs:Off, Fri:Strength workout, Sat:CardioKicks). If I got the Slow & Heavy Series, I would probably substitute it for Monday and Wednesday's cardio.

Any help with this decision from those of you who have these workouts would be soooo very appreciated!! Sorry this is so long, I always try to give all pertinent info when asking a ? like this. (And you guys are the only ones I can talk "fitness" to!!)

Thanks,
Tricia

P.S. Anybody that has a DVD- what can I expect? We haven't had much chance to play with it yet, but I hear they are great for workout variation. Any thoughts?

Hi Tricia,

Wow, that's a tough decision! I would recommend S&H, because it is a departure from the endurance work that is in MIS, therefore, you would have two complimentary workouts. S&H is a great series, but I don't know if you'll be able to condense it into two workouts. It's very intense and demanding...something to think about.

I guess that you'll have to be the one to decide if you could commit to a 3 day split strength routine. That's not to say that you couldn't possibly do S&H as a 2 day split, but that would definitely be pushing it and I would hate for you to experience buyer's remorse. Also, you always have the option with this series to do one muscle group per day.

If you get the Power Hour dvd, MIS and Body Max will be included.
I have this dvd too, and I love it.

You will love your dvd player and all the options that become available when working out with dvds! No more ff and rw, what a convenience.

Dvd is especially great for the weight workouts, because it's so easy to pause between sets, which I often need to do. Or if I can't get my weights together fast enough to join the next exercise, I only have to hit one arrow to get me back to the start of that section, instead of searching for it. With the cardio workouts, it doesn't make that much different. But I do love the dvd. Enjoy yours!

Thanks for your input - I'd pretty much decided to go with S&H, but then my DH said "Why not get the 12 pack?" Isn't that the nicest thing you've ever heard???? I'm soooo excited, I can barely stand it!!! I have to wait about a week to place my order, but just knowing what I'm getting is powerful motivation. Thanks again! (I'm sure when they get here I'll be posting again to ask more about DVD Operation instructions!!)

Happy New Year!! Tricia
