Potassium and Bananas

Does anyone know if there are ill effects to eating to many bananas. I know that potassium is good for you but when does it turn harmful. I have been on this kick of eating bananas lately like 3 a day and I was wondering if it was harmful to have that much potassium. I hope this passes as soon as watermelon season get here. Karen

IMO too much of anything is bad for you but three bananas a day aren't going to kill you especially when you're supposed to have several serving of fruits and veggies every day anyway. Like any other food kick, this will pass. I can eat a pint of strawberries a day for several days, then not touch them again for months! I think you will have more problems from taking too many vitamin supplements a day than eating too much of one type of fruit fruit.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was still surfing the forum. I'm telling you, I know it could be worse like ice cream or chocolate but right now I don't know what it is ,but I would eat a banana over pizza at this point. Now that is saying something! karen

I think the only thing wrong with bananas is their high calorie content (for a fruit that is). I love them myself.

The only thing about bananas, and eating too much of them, is constipation. I remember that from my kids being babies. The doctor said apples, bananas and rice are what will stop things up. Now if they get a little sick that way I will feed them those things before I offer any medicine.

I don't know if this will help, but I used to get chronic migranes and eat a banana before ever workout (9 or 10 a week) I had no idea that they would be connected, but a doc told me just to eat NO MORE than 3 a week and, voila. I haven't had a migraine in 4 years. It had something to do with the blood vessels and too much potas., I couldn't explain it to you if you were waving a $100 bill in front of me, but hey, there you go!

Oh yeah...peanut butter and bananas are wonderful! It used to be the only thing I could get my daughter to eat for dinner.

You know what's REALLLLLLY good? Take some Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream (which is the banana flavored with chocolate chunks and nuts) and mix it with the Tuskagee Mash, which is the peanut butter flavored. Ooooh! Baby, that's good.
