postpartum check in week of March 21

HI gals. Sorry I haven't been around much. This is my last week at home with my 2 babies and I am soooooo sad. I am just trying to spend as much time with them both as I can:( I don't know how I am going to cope next week. Tyler is only 10 wks old this coming friday and it just seems so young to be leaving him:( I wish we could afford for me to stay home!

Mel - what coupons do you have? Are they for formula? I would LOVE some if you have any left! Tyler is going thru a big can of formula a week!!!!!!!! I am sure it will be more soon! Right now he is eating Similac and I am REALLY wondering if I should switch to something cheaper? I am just so afraid of quality though and want to make sure he is getting the right and best stuff!

Maria - you go girlfriend! I am so proud of you for losing all that weight. I agree with the others that you are your own worst critic! I do know what you mean tho about the abs! Mine are so flabby on the bottom it is discusting. The top is getting better though.

I still have about 12-13 lbs to lose to get to my pre-preggo weight. Scale is fluctuating a pound or two daily! ugghhh! The pant-o-meter is going down though. I am finally in all my 10's and happy about it! I couldn't hardly even get in my 14's after I delivered. However, my true goal is a 6 and then a 4! However, gotta take each day by day by day right!? One goal at a time! I am still not in my 10's in jeans so that will be the next goal.

At least I don't have to buy all new pants to go back to work since my 10's now fit. I have a lot of 10's and 8's in my closet. I do need to buy some new shirts though. Looking for some cute summer/work type tops. Anyone know where to find some???

I just wish this dang belly would go away!!!! Ugghhhhh!

Well... here is my workouts for the week. Still doing BFL style and looking to start a REAL challenge this Sunday! Hoping some of you might join me?

Sun - Legs & Glutes + PUB Tri/Back
Mon - Killer step class at GYM (my favorite class!)
Tues - PLB
Wed - Step Blast, 2 step sections plus last 2 hi-low, plus abs

Have a FABBOOOOOO day!

Hi everybody,

and thanks again for your replies! Briee, your suggestion about cutting out certain carbs is good, and actually this is exactly how I've come this far. I eat lots of veggies, fruits and lean protein, and quite little carbs (and only whole grain when I do). My main vice is aspartame sweetened drinks, and just occasionally some low-fat ice-cream (can't live without that ;)). I've been trying to wean myself away from the sweet dietdrinks (which I sort of use as a substitute for sweets), but it's hard. I read somewhere that they can also add to abfat, don't know how true this statement was, but obviously they're not good for you anyway. It's very true that at least part of it is really waterweight, it's the kind of spongy, really soft fat, so I suppose there's hope for it lessening once I stop nursing. Also, my first one was a C-section (breech), and the tissue around the scar seems to get bloated really easily (which doesn't help with the ab-problem!).

Emy, thanks so much for telling about your running experiences! You've done fantastic, wau!!! I'm really impressed! I think I'll have to make some running tapes, too, that can probably make a big difference. My aims are totally at another level, though, I don't think I could make it that far with running...;)) I'm just aiming to get enough varied cardioworkouts...at least for starters...

Baby is crying again, back later,

Maria

ps did Bootcamp core this morning, my goodness that is tough! I can't finish the situps with the ball where you lift your legs at the same time (or without the ball for that matter!) Anyone else have problems with that one particularly?

Hi again,

gosh I seem to forget half the things I'm meaning to mention... I've read that nursing does lessen brain activity...:), I suppose it must be true...

Anyway, was just going to mention to Fitnut that I've had the same experience with fluctuating weight. It can be really frustrating when the thing suddenly jumps a few pounds, even though you know you haven't (or shouldn't have) overeaten. I mean even if you ate a little more than usual, you don't just gain several pounds fat overnight, so obviously it's water. But it certainly doesn't feel nice, anyway. The fluctuations have lessened a little bit lately, my baby-girl is a little more than 3 months now. Just remember, there's no way you can gain fat (1 pound equals about 3500 calories, and 1 fatpound about 4500 if I remember correctly!) overnight, even if you ate a little bit extra! And you're definitely not alone on this one!

Melanie, I thought your workout log looked great, such variety with mixing it up! I've been really lazy at doing that so far, but I suppose I'm new enough to Cathe where the basics still are quite fresh for me. But it goes to show I ain't going to be bored for a long, long time;)!

Thanks everyone for all your interest in passover. I was going to mention about flexuating weight. Prior to pregnancy, I had stopped weighing myself because from using weights my weight had risen significanty and each time i weighed myself I felt fat due to the number on the scale. Since having the baby, I have weighed myself daily just to see how weight flexuates, I began feeling fat when scale read 107 (and I think my scale runs light), I started feeling heavy again. The very next day the scale read 104.5, I know I didn't lose 2.5 pounds in 24 hours. Maria, it really sounds like the loseness is from that c section, make sure not to cut out too much, especially those carbs with your intense workouts. I did bootcamp last week, and modified much of the abs even so my back hurt the next day. I just don't have the coordination for all that core work.

Shopaholic, I totally know what you mean about the weight fluxuations! Even though it's just a number on a scale, it is always as frustrating and annoying when it suddenly hits a high point there! Even though you know it's not "real" weight gain. I think it's a good idea not to weigh oneself so often, I didn't used to do that either, but just like you, after the baby I wanted to get an idea of where I'm at. It's amazing that a single piece of equipment can really make us feel fat or skinny, I mean we all know we shouldn't be staring at the numbers. I'm worried I'll get really frustrated too if the weight starts going up now when I'm doing Cathe strength workouts, even though I know it's a good thing (gaining muscle, right?). Can I ask how much muscle did you gain when starting to do Cathe (so I'll sort of know what to expect...)? Did you do more strength or endurance type workouts? I'm pretty much trying to rotate both endurance and strength, though I don't have the Slow and heavy series (yet...;)).

Maria, Prior to using weights, I was at a good weight from aerobics and being young(I stared doing frequent aerobics at 24 and added serious weights probably at about age 28 or 29. I weighed about 99-100 at 5 feet tall. I now weigh about 108 depending on the day. Some of my weight gain may be age but I really believe at least 5 pounds is muscle as my legs are definely muscular now, I am slower in gaining upper body muscle.

Went jogging!

Went jogging yesterday afternoon. I had no idea it was going to be so nice out, otherwise I wouldn't have done Circuit Max in the yesterday morning. I'll probably be super sore this afternoon.

Anyway, I wish I could afford be buy a dozen of these babyjogger's and mail one to each and everyone of you. It was sooooooo fun. Baby Justin actually took a nap, after googing and goggling for several minutes. I'm used to jogging with headphones on (which I now won't do b/c of baby), but I sounded like I was way out of shape, all my heavy panting. It's so funny how are body's become conditioned to a certain type of exercise. Nice to add variety. I'm going to try to run again today. :)

I have Similiac coupons. I actually only had 2 left, I mailed them to Briee...as she was the only one I knew that had used this brand. I'll get more, they mail them to me all the time. I also get Enfamil coupons...I've been distributing them around my church. FitNut, when Jory was little I bought whatever formula I had a coupon for & it worked out fine (we were really tight financially). He didn't have any problems. Did Tyler adjust well from the breastmilk --> formula transition? Some babies are more sensitive to changes than others. Continuously changing formulas can lead to food allergies later in life. However, I don't see a problem with using 1-2 different brands if you stick with them & Tyler handles them well.

BTW, you can enroll in WELCOME ADDITION through Similiac and they'll send you coupons. They even sent me 3 TUBS of powder formula!!! I"m keeping these for emergencies, or if I ever need to switch to formula.

Shopaholic!!

Cute picture of Alexis! Thanks for sharing. Did you have these taken somewhere?
Question. Justin is 10.5 weeks old and he's been eating every 2 hours or so for the past 2-3 days. Growing spurt, or what? He was going 4 hr stretches. I"m hoping he's going through his 3mo growing spurt a little early? That'd be perfect since i have to go back to work when he's 12weeks old. Anyone have any opinions on this?

RE: Shopaholic!!

Melanie,

Don't "they" say that when your baby starts eating more frequently, he is sending the signal to your body to up milk production to meet his increased nutritional needs... So, perhaps it is a growth spurt.

Glad you had fun with your stroller, and that Justin liked it!

RE: Shopaholic!!

Hi,
Glad you got the newest picture of Alexis Melanie, I tried to send it around. Alexis is hoping for an internet boyfriend. She wants a boy that likes the same things as her, playing in her gym, swinging and jumping in her saucer. LOL. The picture sent was a seas one and is the oner I entered in the contest. Alexis was eating every 2 hours until about 4 months old, but sounds like you are lucky and this is not justin's usual pattern. It definely sounds like a growth spurt, during these spurts you'll notice a large increase in appetite.

RE: Shopaholic!!

Glad I could be home for another growing spurt!! We've been pretty much attatched for this past week. I don't want to set him down, he's just so precious. I don't want him to get spoiled though...

Maria--

I thought that I would reply to this as well. I won't tell anyone what I weigh yet;-), since I am not at my goal, but as a person who has kept somewhat obssesive records of my weight and measurements throughout the years, I discovered that the last time I was this size, I was 10 lbs lighter, which made me really happy. I have gained some muscle. Hurray--but boy that extra 10 lbs on the scale makes me "feel" like more of a fatty than I am. As a result I am upping my goal weight some, so I don't have a much to lose as I thought.

Anyway--good luck with reaching your goals

take care
Maggie

Hi Maggie,

thanks so much for that info! It's so good to know what sort of weight gain may be expected, because I'm just like you, even though muscle is what I want, the extra weight just feels depressing! We humans are such strange creatures! I think Shopaholic is probably underestimating her muscleweight rather than overestimating at least. Don't people with high expectations tend to not believe the good we've achieved! Anyway, I seem to remember weightgains in this ballpark on the open forum way back, so it sounds very realistic. And I'm sure you look a loot better in the same size with all that muscle!!! Congrats to you too for getting that far, and thanks again for replying!

Maria
