Post-Surgery Comeback

Hi, Cathe et al!

I only have a few minutes to ask this (I'm at work and the boss is his typical hovering self), but I have a quick question...

I had emergency surgery performed 2 weeks ago to remove a large simply cyst that had "torsed" itself onto my right ovary. Fortunately, it was caught before anything terrible happened, but now I'm having trouble with my workouts. I usually do your CTX series or Interval Max (basically high intensity), but I find that plyometrics and jumping jacks and the like cause me great pain in my abdominal area. I know this is b/c the doctors made incisions through my muscles in my abs, but I'm being stubborn and impatient and I want to work out at full intensity again!!

Now for my question: How long is it necessary to wait before I can expect to perform up to my potential again? :)

Thanks so much!
Amy

AMY!

Glad you caught the problem before it got worse!! I think most times, the recommended healing time is 6 weeks! I know that is not what you wanted to hear. Of course, the healing time is different for everyone depending on the person and the type of surgery, but being that you had an incision, I would surely want to give it time to heal properly. Maybe, Cathe or even Sheila can jump in here with expert advice. Good Luck and glad you are making your comeback!! Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)

RE: AMY!

Thanks for the advice, Debbie! :)

It was not only one incision but three... I shouldn't have said that b/c now, I'm sure I'll be advised not to work out for a while! Ugh. :)

Anyhow, I know you're probably right. I have to give my body time to recover. I'm such a masochist and it interferes sometimes, you know? I'm sure all of us fitness fiends know a thing or two about that.

Thanks again, and take care,
Amy

You're...

...VERY welcome! I can relate with what you are going through. I am babying a sore elbow right now and it is killing me not to do my strength work. I know if I don't get it healed it will just be a longer road to recovery. Take care and know you aren't alone. We'll be back in the swing of things before you know it!!:7 Your-Friend-In-Fitness, DebbieH :)
