Pointers for tricep pushups

Hi Cathe! This morning while doing the tricep section of the 10-10-10 workout I noticed that while I'm doing the tricep pushups, I have a hard time bringing my hands straight down and keeping my elbows close to my side. I think the problem is that I have an arch in my lower back. Whenever I try to stretch out on the floor, I cannot stretch my arms straight out....My arms never completely straighten out from the elbows. Maybe this is something that I just have to find a way around. If you (or anyone else) has this problem, could you please tell me how you manage the tricep pushups? BTW, I'm doing a rotation with the CTX DVD and although it's challenging, I'm loving it.

Hi Gmcneil! If you feel that this is related to an excessive arch in your back, try doing tricep push ups with bent knees (if you are not already) to take some stress off of your lower back. Also, try doing tricep push ups "see saw" style on the stability ball, the way we did in Supersets workout. This will support the lower back while you focus on your triceps. Be sure that you continue to work on your overall core strength too. Good luck!

Thanks for the response Cathe. I will definitely try the tricep push up "see saw". I've tried the bent knees and although it does take the pressure off my lower back, it doesn't really help my form much. Could someone please tell me which DVD has the Supersets workout. So far the only DVDs that I have are the Basic Step & Fusion, High Step Circuit Beginner, CTX and Timesaver. I'm pretty sure the Supersets workout is not on either one of those.

Supersets and Push/Pull are on the same DVD (Body Blast series).
YOu could also try the tricep push-ups on your knees, with your hands on the high step (or a regular step). Do you do yoga? The chaturanga move (where you go from a plank to hovering above the floor, is similar to a triceps push-up. Get into plank position (on toes or knees), then lower yourself slowly, keeping your elbows pointed back. This can help you get the feel for the arm position for triceps push-ups.
