pliee jacks

anyone else spastic when it comes to these?? i cant seem to jump high enough to bring both feet together!

Plie jacks are not my favorite either. I actually modify them by just jumping up from a plie squat and I don't bring my heels together. I just really squeeze my inner thighs and glutes so that when I'm in the jump, my legs are straight but still out to the sides (not underneath me like they would be if I brought my heels together). If I'm feeling energetic, I may do 3 modified plie jacks with one regular plie jack where I actually squeeze my heels together on the jump.

On a lot of these 'up-in-the-air' moves, I can't do everything at the same time. If I jump high (well, high for me!), I can't get my heels together. If I jump wide, I can't get high.

For plié jacks, I can sometimes get the heels together, but I put more emphasis on the downward portion of it than on the upward.

But don't worry, you don't have to do plyos exactly as Cathe and the crew do for them to be effective for you. In fact, IMO, if you try to force yourself into a move and your body isn't built for it, you could do yourself harm, not to mention get frustrated as all get-out!

Just look at some of the background exercisers, they don't always do a heel click. (Though it does seem like Cathe has weeded out her background exercisers and just kept those who can, LOL!) It does seem like taller people can have a harder time with some of these air moves. And I don't mean "tall," just taller than Cathe and the other short backgrounders, who are around 5' 2". For example, in earlier workouts, Rhonda, who is 5' 6", did not get many heel clicks in. I wish she were in workouts still, because she's my height, and its nice to see how moves work on taller folks.

Just work it, do your best, and don't worry about the details!

When I took ballet we would have to do changement jumps and plie jumps till what seemed like forever. I think it was easier in the ballet slippers, . . they don't weigh as much as workout shoes.

haha, so funny you mentioned that because i always watch rhonda and i thought i was making up the fact that she didnt bring her heels together 100% of the time, just so i could feel better!!! im 5'9 so maybe it's more of a height issue than an ability issue...hopefully lol ;)

I remember and I agree! I guess that's why plie jacks aren't as tough for me. Now Blast 4 on IMAX 3 is a different story!

I'm so glad to see that others have trouble w/ plie jacks. I can never seem to get the heels to click but I do what I can. I'm not much taller than Cathe & crew 5'4 but I'm just not good at all the in the air moves. Maybe I'll get better at it w/time.
