How disappointing to see a couple of threads here today. Please take a moment to review this portion of our guidelines.

"Be kind and try to avoid flame wars. If you disagree or decide to inform someone of a mistake, point it out politely. Give people the benefit of the doubt; assume they just don't know any better. And never be arrogant or self-righteous about it. We respect your right to disagree with us or another participant, but always be civil. Personal attacks against any member will not be tolerated and will be deleted."

Thanks for taking the time to review this. As a reminder I am editing tomorrow (Friday)and will also be editing all day Monday and Tuesday. I will be back on the forums Wednesday! Take care and please let's be kind to one another.

Thank you so much Cathe for posting this!

Thanks for letting us know about the editing too! I am SO excited!!

Thank you for a pointed and timely reminder, Cathe.

A poster who today tacked on a tacky comment to the end of a thread I began in late July about celebrating my own sobriety anniversary, attacking a poster who had replied on July 27th, totally ruined the good feeling that thread produced. I'm not sure what satisfaction this troll got from that, but it has no place here.

I hope that you'll follow up on this. I've seen several threads (now and in the past) with totally outrageous personal attacks against members (or social groups that members belong to) that have been left to fester and have ruined otherwise pleasant threads.

Hey A-jock,

I noticed that poster today, too. She also attacked Trevor's July thread on his progress. I was going to wait until the end of the day to mention something to see if she was just going to go around posting ridiculous and cruel comments to all posts... I'm sorry that she ruined your celebration, but nobody else around here feels that way. She's just being nasty for no good reason.

There's got to be a stronger word than rude, but I can't quite find it. Rude to the Nth degree? Rude to the point of attacking? Superrude? I mean, rude is when someone steps on your toe and doesn't apologize, or burps at the table, or talks out of turn, interrupting someone else.

The quality of the forum depends in part on the moderators. I am very relieved that the threads were removed and hopeful that the forum will be moderated to enforce guidelines. Thank you for the reminder Cathe, and thank you for the forums.

To Cathe or SNM,

I'd like to second Kathryn's suggestion for follow-up and encourage enforcement of this policy - "Personal attacks against any member will not be tolerated and will be deleted."

Some of the personal attacks that have been made publicly on this forum have in the past also been turned into attacks made privately via email. Having been a recipient of one of these, I'll also say that it was more than a lttle disturbing.

Thanks for listening.
