hi everyone, first of all apologies if I make some mistakes, English is not my first language.
I've recently purchased the pyramid upper/lower body DVD and so far so good. I was completely ignorant in regards to weight training and this DVD has been incredibly helpful to get me started. What I can't seem to figure out though is how often I can/should be doing this exercise regimen without overtraining. I normally split the DVD into 2 sessions, one day I'd do the lower body workout and the next day I'd do upper body. My question is, how many times per week would you do this?

thanks

Hi malasana--the one rule of weight training you want to keep in mind is you want to give your muscles 48 hours of rest between workouts. So if you're splitting it into 2 w/os you can probably do it 2-3X a week.

Hi LauraMax, thanks for replying :)

So you mean 2-3X a week for each work out or 2-3x including both upper and lower body?

Malasana,
I never work the same body part two days in a row. So if you do a lower body workout, the next day you should do someting else (upper body, cardio, yoga). The following day you can do lower body again (if you feel you've recovered enough).

I try to get 3 weight workouts and 3 cardio workouts in each week. The weight workouts may include cardio (if they are circuit workouts, for example), but I wouldn't do that on the day after I've done weights, or do weights the day after, either.

Overtraining can cause injury and hurt your progress. Hope this helps!

2-3X upper, 2-3X lower. Alternate them every other day.

But you might want to get one or two more DVDs, because you'll probably get bored really fast! ;)

Thank you ladies! I really need to do some research on bodybuilding, this is all new to me and it can be a bit overwhelming at first.

LauraMax, what other DVD's would you recommend me? I think you're right, doing the same video over and over again can be a bit repetitive, but I figured I had to start somewhere:)

Yep, I do the same- never repeat a muscle group 2 days in a row.

Laura is right, if you do PUB and PLB over and over you're going to lose your mind. If you can swing it, I would buy Bootcamp / Muscle Endurance. You'll get a great circuit / interval workout and a total body muscle workout. There are a ton of other options, though. :) You can't go wrong with any Cathe choice. HTH!

Malasana- go browse the Cathe videos and pick out what appeals to you- we'll answer any questions you might have about specific videos!

If you want more strength building, Gym Styles is highly recommended (I have it and haven't done it yet, ha!). If you want cardio, then she has some great step workouts or you could do a circuit / interval type of thing. Let us know how we can help!

Since everyone gave you such great advice I just wanted to say that for English being your second language you sure write really well! :)
Oh and I love the Gym Style series-- you cannot go wrong there.
