Please Help! Daughter has Itchy Throat

Hi Everyone,

My five year old daughter has an itchy throat from seasonal allergies. I am currently giving her over the counter allergy medication that was recommended by the doctor but nothing is really helping her. Besides honey and rinsing with salt water, do you have any suggestions for me? She really hates honey and does not like the idea of salty water. However, if you tell me these do work I will try them.

It could be freezing cold or very hot and she still wants to play outside. It broke my heart today when she told me that she thought we should have our picnic inside because her throat was too itchy. :( Can anybody help???

Thank you,

tea, tea, more tea. my kids love chamomile, mint, chai. when they don't want tea, hot cocoa will work. make with water, milk sometimes increases congestion/phlem.

mouth wash seems to help, if she's old enough for that.

good old cough drops.

for some people, eating ice cream/popsicles helps.

i wouldn't worry about the playing outside too much. the fresh air is really good for her, unless it makes allergies worse. and unless she's too sick, and needs just rest.

maybe you could do a tea party picnic inside.

reading your post again, sounds like our dd5 would be good friends. i hope she feels better soon.

I agree with mom418. I don't have kids but as an adult I hate salty water, I prefer cough drop, tea, or mouth wash :)

Thanks for the help mom418 and ebonynicole. We tried popsicles yesterday and that helped a little. Thankfully the itchy throat wasn't a problem today because it was a school day.

I recommend dangling her by her ankles over a garbage can, mainly for fun (until child protective gets involved). Bourbon often works or you might also find a new doctor, preferably one who receives nifty goodies from pharmaceutical companies.
