Please explain to me (vent)

I, too, loathe the scale and prefer "measuring" my success by how my clothes are fitting and how many inches I've lost. Before I gave up weighing all together, I reduced the frequency of my scale visits, weighing once every 2 weeks or once a month. Although I much prefer a "weightless" lifestyle, weighing less frequently is a close second.

The only time I way myself is when I go to the doctor. I could care less how much I weigh. I pay more attention to how my pants fit.:)

A-Jock, my father has the exact same thing you do and the same symptom and also parts of his eyebrows are missing too. Doesn't seem to be a whole heck of a lot of information on it so he just shaves the rest off and goes bald too.

Back to the original poster, this may not be the problem, but after "one bad meal" are you eating more than you think you are the next day because you stretched your stomach? The eyes can lie if you are hungrier and I have found from trial and error that if I eat "one bad meal" I end up hungrier for days afterwards and have to measure and watch portion control carefully. The only other thing I can think of is salt/water weight gain.

This is a wonderful article called why the scale lies, please read it:

You would have to overeat 7000 calories to gain two pounds. A whole half gallon of Breyers Coffee Ice Cream contains 2720. Forget the scale. Forget feeling guilty. Just regroup and eat a little less over the next few days. It's all about balance and a bad day can be balanced very easily by a few clean and lean ones. You are being too hard on yourself. Don't let one bad day make you forget all the good ones!

Navywifey,

You sparked a great discussion! And ladies, as always, you are all so wise. Being a slave to the scale is a terrible thing. We all know too well how it can ruin your efforts, motivation, even your entire day. Screw it!

Oh- and congrats on all of your efforts! It's not easy.

DEBBIE and ANNETTE!

What a hoot, Deb -- Girlfriend, I can justimagine you momentarily thinking "Hmm, I emit small bubbles of gas as if I'm carbonated???" ;-)

You are indeed lively, vivacious and effervescent, and effluviescent (if in fact that's even more perky), as is the legally bald and insanely funny A-jock. You two are tops on my hit parade of favorite high-volume posters in the Cathe world.

How come I've been here FOREVER and haven't even hit my 1,000 mark??? ;-(

If you must weight yourself, I would suggest getting on the scale once every month, at the same time of the month and the same time of day. It would be even better if you could stetch it to every 2 or 3 months. And don't put too much stock in what the scale says until a full year has gone by. I'm always weighing myself at the gym and thinking I've gained, but then I go to the doctor once every year and my weight is always exactly the same as it was the year before. If you must weigh yourself, the most meaningful weigh-in is that annual one IMHO. So, spend less time looking at the scale and more time counting how many workouts you do and for how long if you must count something! :)

P.S. I just have to add: PLEASE forget about thinking that one meal can destroy all your efforts!! There is simply no way that can happen! You do not need to be perfect to lose fat. Just try to eat right most of the time and the results will come. Maybe not as fast as you had hoped, but they will come. :D

RE: Hey Kathy!

Right back atcha, girlfriend -- better than a Starbucks nonfat hi-octane latte to get my day going! :)

BTW, after we talked I was inspired and did Boot Camp the way you and Dave do -- all but core first and then the core-only premix. Can I tell ya, I'm not exaggerating about this -- I cannot walk this morning! My inner thighs! My core! Ay yi yi!! I don't know what it is about splitting the work up that way, but I was toasted!!!! :)
