PLB/IMAX 2 question

When you do the total body blast rotation, where you do PLB and intervals 1-5 of IMAX 2 on the same day, are you doing IMAX 2 before or after the PLB? I can see advantages to either way, but I want to know what's working best for everyone.

Beth:

I don't do this particular rotation, but I know both videos and do combine leg training on cardio days and what I would say is that I would never do Imax 2 after PLB or any other leg workout. One reason is that I feel such a high after Imax 2, I never feel the need to do anything else after it, it is enough. Secondly, my body gets too tired with weights work to have any energy left for cardio afterwards, and even if I force myself to do it, it's not pleasurable. On the other hand, cardio first (a different cardio, a CTX cardio, not Imax 2) warms the body up and after a 5 minute rest, I can indeed do a leg weights work out afterwards and complete it with good form.

Others will tell you that for them it's more effective or more comfortable the other way around. There are different arguments here: some say that you make more strength gains if you do the weights work first, then the cardio, and that might be true. But it's definitely more comfortable the other way around. So I would say to you, what matters most to you: max strength gains, or max cardiovascular benefits and a comfortable cardio workout?

I believe the answer to your question may well be that in probably doesn't make much difference: go with whatever order feels most comfortable to your body and most right for you.

I do the cardio first to get it over with and warm up my muscles for PLB, which is more fun. Aren't these scientific reasons?

RE: mogambo's sicentific reason

I was thinking it sounded more "scientific" to do the cardio first! I'd still like to hear from any others out there who are doing the rotation and how that combo works best for you.

RE: mogambo's sicentific reason

Clare has excellent advice!!

If muscle building is hard for you and is also a priority, I would say lift first (but good luck on the intervals:)

If leaning out is a priority and you already have a good amount of mass and/or gain muscle easily, do IMAX first.

Physiologically I think it is better to do some sort of cardio first to limber up the muscles, but I do think IMAX is overkill. If I really wanted to train heavy legs I would just do maybe the warmup from IMAX first and then go on to the weights..

I have enough lower body mass though so typically I do any cardio first...

RE: mogambo's sicentific reason

I do tend to bulk up the lower body with heavy weights so I think I will do the IMAX intervals 1-5 going easy on the intervals though so as not to wear myself out before PLB. Another good option would be to do the cardio/weights cardio only premix first I think. Thanks for all the advice!
