PLB - Do you use dumbbells or barbell?

I find that I hardly ever do this workout because I hate squatting down and changing my barbell plates all the time! Even though I have clips, it still takes a long time (I have to pause the tape) and a lot of extra effort.

Anyone do PLB with dumbbells? I haven't done it in a long while so I don't even remember whether it would be possible for all the sets.

I'm looking for a reason to get rid of my excuses and work this back into my rotation because so many people seem to think it's effective.

Thanks!!

I mostly use dumbbells. The only exercise I prefer to use a barbell with is deadlifts because it's easier to keep my shoulders in the correct position, but I frequently use dumbbells even for that.

I don't like to change weight all the time either. I do the workout with a barbell and some dumbells. I have the weights all set and only need to change maybe a couple times throughout the workout.

I don't own a barbell and have no desire to. I do all weight work with dumbbells, and I think I get just as good a workout. I think even Cathe once said that dumbbells can easily be substituted for the barbell. I am not that strong so I always use 8 and 10lb. dumbbells and any more than 20 lbs. on my shoulders is too much. I find a barbell to be uncomfortable to workout with.

I use dumbells for this as well...and I got to tell you...the first time I did this workout I had BAD doms for almost three days afterward...and I was not lifting nearly as heavy as Cathe and crew. It must have been all the repetitions that got me. Quite a workout...

I use a barbell, but I take the time I need to change the weights (I'll never be able to *safely* change weights and get ready as quickly as Cathe and the crew do, and I feel no desire to). I have the DVD version, so I just chapter down when I'm ready.

That being said, I've seen quite a few people who mention that they use dumbbells for this workout, and Cathe herself has said that dumbbells will also work.

When I first used this tape, I was strictly using the barbell. I found it quite cumbersome to constantly bend down & switch plates as well as first pausing the tape. I also noticed my back was giving me some not so good pain. Now I have my barbell loaded at the heaviest weight & use dumbells in various weights; that way I never have to change the barbell. I rarely use this tape; its not one of my favorite leg workouts.:( HTH, Kathy

I use the barbell, it feels far more comfortable than hoisting individual dumbells onto the shoulders once you get up past 40 pounds. I can change plates at the same speed as Cathe or at almost the same speed, and if I lag behind a little, I don't let it phase me. I keep the remote on the chair next to me and just rewind a little and I'm all set and off again....I love this workout, one of my faves.
