hi,

i just got pink eye from my cold, and am starting antibioitc eye drops today. i was wondering, does anybody know how long i need to avoid eye makeup/eyelash curler on my eyes? how long until it's no longer contagious and an issue? once it clears up? or after a certain number of days of therapy? (i ask b/c i have a function on saturday, and am wondering if i can use my eyelash curler w/o problems of contamination etc..)

thank you!

RE:

I had it last year and man did it hurt. It took about 3 days to clear up. I started using make-up after I felt better. I did throw out all my eye make-up though. You should probably toss your curler or sterilize it.

RE:

You should be OK. It lasts from 24 to 72 hours after you start taking the medicated eye drops. It's also not contagious after the first 24 hours of medication. I used to get conjunctivitis a lot, and this is what my doctor has told me.

I agree. Throw out your eye make up. I've had so many bouts of pink eye and it was because I was using the same eyeliner. People thought I was smoking something because my eyes were always red. :9

RE:

You should buy a new eyelash curler and mascara to use the day of the occasion. You don't have to throw out pencils, just sharpen 'em. That's what my doc told me when I had it last month.

RE:

You have gotten great responses. About your eye makeup... Mascara should be replaced every 3 months, and also liquid eye liner. If you use the ones you sharpen there's no problem and if you use the ones that have a dial and don't need sharpening you should clean the tip with a clean napkin every once in awhile. Powder eyeshadows can last about 1-2 years as long as you clean your brushes frequently if you use brushes and if you use applicators buy new ones every couple of months. Other tools like curlers, lash combs etc can last as long as you own them (that is if you buy the metal ones instead of plastic) and you should wash them with antibacterial soap and sterilize them with ethyl alcohol every once in awhile.

RE:

Ooops I forgot. If you get any eye infections you should replace all your eye makeup (that is if you're certain you used them when you had the infection) the tools like the curler and lash comb can be sterilized without having to get rid of them.
