Pilates

Hey guys! I was curious... anyone do Pilates? I was interested in buying a video, and I've read a lot about the Living Arts Pilates matwork videos. Also, I know Stott makes matwork vids as well. Yes, I know I can go to videofitness.com to read reviews, but I'd much rather hear what the Cathe crowd has to say! :0) Any video suggestions and advice is welcome. I already do power yoga once a week and thought maybe Pilates would be interesting to add, too. Thanks for your help!

Healthy regards, sara

Since I had foot surgery last week--Pilates is my exercise of choice for now. (I had incorporated it over a year ago, too. ) I like Stott, I really like Jennifer Kries Original Precision Toning. I love what Pilates has done for me that traditional ab work--(even plank work) does not do.

Hi. Pilates is a great workout. I try to do a pilates once a week as part of my rotation - I am currently trying to do Cathe Pure Strength series - I am using Stott Intermediate Matt work - I find her very easy to follow yet the exercises are challenging. I have also found that Pilates does amazing things for my abs and when I do pilates my lower back doesn't bother me like it does when I do traditional crunches. If you do yoga you may be able to start with the Intermediate tape but if you are not sure, just start with the beginners tape.

Hey! Thanks for the advice... I have read that the Stott vids are pretty straight forward and challenging. Since I've been doing yoga for awhile, I could start with the intermediate tape rather than the first tape? I don't want to buy a vid that is too easy or basic, but I don't want to be overwhelmed by something too advanced to start with. Thanks for your help!

Sarah,
If you have been doing power yoga once a week for awhile and been doing well, go for the intermediate Pilates tape. Depending on what power yoga instructor you use, I am pretty confident a beginning pilates tape will be too easy.
Your abs might be really challenged the first few times...but that's what you want. :7 IMHO

THANKS! I will definetly see about getting an intermediate tape. Do you do a pilates video? If so, which one? Stott or Living Arts are the ones I've read most about. Thanks for your help!

Hi Sara,

I really like Stott's videos but some thing she is too cold. I don't think you'll go wrong with Stott, The Method or Living Arts.

But, I don't agree that experience w/ yoga puts you at an intermediate level w/ Pilates. The reverse hasn't been true for me. The breathing is different, the moves are quite different. I use Stott's Int matwork but beginning yoga videos. I think someone new to Pilates might get frustrated if they started on Stott's int. video. Just one opinion.
