Pilates Workout

Cathlete
I know there have been a few posts about pilates, but I'm looking for a pilates workout that will replace the ab work on Cathe's workouts for a while, for variety.

Are there any pilates workouts that mostly target the core and are relatively short - say maybe 20 mins - that people are liking?

The Winsor pilates sure looked good on the infomercial I saw last night and the clip on collage looked good too. I don't want it to replace my strength training workouts necessarily; maybe just complement them.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Nancy,

Winsor Pilates has a 20 minute workout, which works both abs and legs and a 20 minute ab sculpting video, both of which I've tried and like. Gaiam has a 20 minute pilates for abs, which I enjoy and think is harder than either of those two Winsor videos. There is also a Winsor Advanced Body slimming that's 20 minutes and a 20 minute Maximum Burn; I haven't tried either of them.

Finally, Hilary Burnett (I don't know if I spelled that right) has several Pilates tapes that are available on Amazon. She has very good reviews there and on VideoFitness.

Good luck! I find Pilates to be very effective, especially with the core strenght I already have from Cathe.

Thanks Lisa! I see what you mean: Hillary Burnett got wonderful ratings on Videofitness. Above the ratings of the Winsor workouts. This is going to be a difficult decision.

Nancy: a couple of more thoughts

Nancy,

You're welcome. I don't think I said yesterday that I had just last week gotten Hillary Burnett's intermediate and advanced tapes. After replying to you, I decided to try the intermediate. I enjoyed it a lot. She did more reps of some of the exercises, which was I liked. She also gave a lot of pointers on the breathing, which a lot of the instructors don't do.

Just remember, it's a fairly relaxing workout. As I said, it's effective, but you may not feel as much like you're working out. Also, it's all in control and stabilization. A lot of people say that they don't think it works, but I think it's because they're not stabilizing themselves properly. Also, the core work you've done with Cathe will help you to be able to do more of the exercises with better form. I hope you find something you like!

RE: Nancy: a couple of more thoughts

I went with the Winsor pilates. I think it was because the reviews on videofitness were all good and because I liked the clip the best of all of them. I like that 3-D thing they do that shows you what body is part is being used. Also, someone described the workout as being almost fun, which sounds pretty good for pilates. Let's face it, how much fun can core work be??

I'll let you know what I think when it arrives in 2-3 weeks.

RE: Nancy: a couple of more thoughts

Dani, I didn't get the same one you got. I got the "beginner" package. Everyone seems to love the one you got, but I thought it might be too advanced for me to start with. Have you received yours yet?

RE: Nancy: a couple of more thoughts

Hi Nancy,

I did receive the Advanced Burn (50 minute) from Collage a while ago. It made me very sore for days! I love it!

I think it was smart to get the beginner package! I hope you like it!

:)

RE: Nancy: a couple of more thoughts

Hey Dani and Nancy!

First, Nancy, I think you can't go wrong with the Winsor Pilates, and I agree that you were wise to go with the beginner package. Once you feel like you've mastered them, then you can try other instructors or Mari's more advanced tapes.

Dani, I got my Advanced Burn DVD last week and tried it for the first time today. I was able to do all of it, although not always with the best form. Something to aspire to!

Have a great day!

RE: Nancy: a couple of more thoughts

Hi Nancy, just chiming in to say that I like Mari's way of teaching. I think you will learn good form from her. I got the infomercial set but I ordered it through some website...her producer I think. I now have her advanced one like Dani. I think I'm going to put my other Pilates workouts away and just do Mari's. I haven't tried some of the ones the others mentioned but I know I like these.
Before long you will be doing the Teaser. I was amazed when I finally got up there without falling back down. That was a "Yippee" moment. You will get there too.

You go girl, and watch that core get strong!.;-)

Lisa and Wanda

Hi Lisa! That's great!! You'll be zipping through it with ease in no time at all!

Wanda! I know just what you mean about being able to do the teaser. I didn't know my body could actually do some of those moves, but I surprised myself. :p

:)

RE: Nancy: a couple of more thoughts

I'm all excited now Wanda and Dani!! Thanks so much for your posts! Can't wait to amaze myself! :7
