Pilates ring

tetons

Hi educated crowd!

Anyone have one of these or have tried one? Are they worth $30?

Thanks for your input.

I went thru this same dilemma a while back and ended up buying the pilates ring with Karen Voight's DVD. I really enjoy her workouts (Abs & Back and Total Body Pilates) and felt I really got my money's worth.

If you do buy a ring separately, be sure to check if the ring is padded on the inside as well as the outside, since many workouts have you use the ring both ways.

HTH,

It probably is a good investment. I agree you should get the better one is you are going to go for it. But....LOL...the proverbial "but"... I've been using the stability ball between the legs for those squeeze moves. I use a medicine ball over my forehead for resistance during the head moves. During the leg moves where you need the resitance, I put on my ankle weights. But that is just me.
I'm just having a hard time justifying an extra $30 for toys right now. ;-)

Different rings have differing amounts of resistance. Generally the more expensive ones are made of steel and have greater resistance.
I wouldn't buy the top of the line unless you plan on using it a lot.

I think the Stott and the Balanced Body ones are the toughest to use.

I've used the Stott ring in mat classes & love it. It does not have cushioning on the inside of the ring but that has never presented an obstacle.

I owned & returned the Voight ring. Very light weight, it seemed flimsy. I returned the Voight workout too, after 3 attempts to get a non-defective copy directly from Voight's company.

I've also used a cheap kids ball (about the size of Voight's genie ball) & bands in mat class. The darn little $3 ball from Target can make your thighs tremble just as well as a ring.

Props are fun & can provide a new challenge but they don't have to be expensive. Do you have videos like Voight or Stott that use props? I'm not very creative & wouldn't know how to use them without classes.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate the input.

I have one total body ring workout and tried it once with my son's kick ball and it worked ok. The other day I did a pilates on the ball workout and really, I mean really, felt it the next day and it got me to thinking, hey, maybe the pilates ring would be as effective a tool as the ball. So, hence my question. I think the video I have is Living Arts something or other.

Thanks again...
